'Dear White People' Season 4: Release date, plot, cast, and everything you need to know about the satirical comedy

The comedy-drama from Justin Simien based on his 2014 movie has been renewed for a fourth and final season expected to release in 2020
PUBLISHED OCT 4, 2019

It's one last semester at Winchester University, folks.

The 'Dear White People' television show was based on the movie of the same name from 2014 that starred Tessa Thompson. The show has been renewed by Netflix for a fourth and final season. The third season of the show premiered this August, and other than serving as an extended ad for Netflix, it received lesser ratings than its previous seasons. But with one last season coming up, viewers would be hoping that the controversial comedy that sparked conversations about race and comedy goes out with a bang.

Release date:

The fourth and final season will consist of 10 episodes and is expected to land on Netflix in 2020.

Plot:

Set in the fictional Winchester University, a predominantly white Ivy League University, the show explores subject matters such as race (including sub-matters like appropriation, assimilation, conflict), sexual orientation and bias. Navigating these issues, the show follows a group of students of color as they understand their own identity and forge their own path. The satirical show explores these themes through an absurdist lens but never fails to deliver on the impact of these issues on the black population of the United States and other issues affecting society today.

In season 4, we can presumably learn more about Order X. In Season 3, Sam and Lionel were trying to join the mysterious secret society. Of course, it is possible that by the end of the season, we will see the students graduating from Winchester University.

Cast:

Logan Browning attends the 28th Annual NAACP Theatre Awards at Millennium Biltmore Hotel on June 17, 2019, in Los Angeles, California.

Logan Browning plays the main role of Samantha White who creates the podcast called 'Dear White People' confronting the racist attitudes in her college. By Season 3, she has stepped back from that role and focuses on her filmmaking studies as well as trying to unearth the mysteries of Order X.

DeRon Horton

DeRon Horton attends the premiere of Netflix's "Sextuplets" at ArcLight Hollywood on August 07, 2019 in Hollywood, California.

DeRon Horton will reprise his role as Lionel Higgins, a highly intelligent student who is also a newsletter reporter. Lionel explores his identity as a gay man in the previous seasons and moonlights as a gay erotica author under a pseudonym in Season 3. He joins Sam in investigating Order X.

Brandon P. Bell

Brandon P. Bell attends the 49th NAACP Image Awards at Pasadena Civic Auditorium on January 15, 2018, in Pasadena, California.

Joining the above, the cast includes Antoinette Robertson as Colandrea "Coco" Conners, John Patrick Amedori as Gabe Mitchell, Marque Richardson as Reggie Green, Caitlin Carver as Muffy Tuttle, Griffin Matthews as D'Unte, Nia Jervier as Kelsey Phillips, and Jemar Michael as Al.
