Singer-songwriter and musician Dave Haynes, who founded the bands — Zodiac 5, The Deadbirds and Rocking Scoundrels — is finally breaking out on his own with his debut solo album, 'Get Some!'

Haynes began his career all the way back in the '90s, fusing British and American roots-based music to create his own contemporary rock sound. Rocking Scoundrels released a total of six albums, with some of their songs finding a place in the movie 'Pawns Move' as well as the documentaries 'Behind the Mask' and 'Why We Ride'. But while the bands he helped create ranged in sound from hard rock, punk and garage to melodic pop/rock and even rockabilly, Haynes' own sound straddles all these genres without falling firmly into any single genre.

To that end, 'Get Some!' is a long overdue record that features 10 fun and catchy rock/pop tunes with elements of a wide range of styles. For Haynes, going solo was the culmination of a journey towards finding his own musical vision that he brought to life by played all the instruments himself except for the drums, for which he enlisted the help of his friend and former Deadbirds and Zodiac 5 drummer Lee Lowe. Speaking of the experience of recording an entire album remotely amidst a lockdown, Haynes states, "The recording process was challenging because we weren’t able to rehearse the songs as a full band and then record in the studio as you normally would. However, between us, we managed to pull it off and created some great rock & roll!"

'Get Some!', the result of this collaboration, is something Haynes describes as "a collection of melodic guitar-driven rock & roll songs that should resonate with anyone who appreciates classic rock/pop with a generous helping of British attitude!"

And on that front, he isn't wrong at all. If you've found yourself yearning for the sounds of '80s and '90s rock and pop, Haynes' latest work is exactly what you need in your life.

Lyrically, the record features a straightforward take on some all-too-relatable problems. 'Inspiration', for instance, is a slower tune that encompasses what being stuck and unmotivated feels like. Reflecting on his songwriting process, Haynes recalls dealing with writer's block, stating "...I’d lost my mojo." And to combat that, he simply wrote a song about the very predicament he found himself in. As he sings on the track, "Sometimes the simple things are all you need."

Haynes states, "After writing 'Inspiration', the flood gates opened and the songs just seemed to flow." This is wonderfully reflected in the album's first single 'Peach', which is the antithesis of feeling blocked. It details Haynes' excitement and sense of optimism when he first arrived in Los Angeles in the '90s and the artiste expresses this giddy feeling perfectly in the chorus lyric "like life on a beach, my life is a peach."

And this feeling of experiencing something for the first time is exactly how Haynes' album makes its listener feel, like you're discovering the nostalgic rock/pop sounds of the '90s all over again.
