'Dark' season 3 will likely cement Maja Schöne's Hannah Kahnwald as the most sinister character on the series

In the first season, Maja's character is widowed following the suicidal hanging of husband Michael Kahnwald. At first, we rounded it up to a sad marriage culminating in a sad end. But we hadn't known 'Dark' back then.

Spoiler alert for season 1 and 2 of 'Dark'

It is not all that difficult to deem Hannah Kahnwald the most awful character on the German series 'Dark'. Well, the most sinister character on 'Dark' is actually Adam (played by Dietrich Hollinderbäumer), but humor us when we consider Hannah (played by Maja Schöne) to be the worst one.

In the first season, Maja's character is widowed following the suicidal hanging of her husband Michael Kahnwald (played by Sebastian Rudolph). At first, we rounded it up to a sad marriage culminating in a sad end. But we hadn't known 'Dark' back then.

It is soon revealed to us that Hannah actually has an affair with Ulrich Nielson (played by Oliver Masucci), who is married to Katharina (played by Jördis Triebel). Now, it is fair to consider that Michael's suicide is related to this affair. But it's not.

In the first season itself, we see how obsessive Hannah is about Ulrich. Back when they were all in high school, when she sees Katharina and Ulrich together making love, she reports to the police that Ulrich raped Katharina. And so Egon Tiedemann (played by Christian Pätzold) arrests Ulrich.

When she finally gets her hands on Ulrich – not to take away the blame from Ulrich who plays an equal role if not more in the affair – she is unapologetic. Even when Katharina discovers about the infidelity, Hannah doesn't go back or take responsibility in her actions – she is unabashed.

When Hannah steals the time machine from The Stranger (played by Andreas Pietschmann), she is essentially stealing from her own son. We know what she intends to do with the time machine – she wants to go back in time to 1953-54, where Ulrich is stuck in a psychiatric ward. And so she does.

But she practically ruins him. She goes straight to the police station, where she meets a young Egon Tiedemann (played by Sebastian Hülk) claiming that she is Ulrich's wife.

When meets him though, Ulrich is desperate to get out and meet Mikkel and take him back to his time. But instead, she simply walks away. Ulrich even claims that he loves her – something she was prompted to by 2019 Katharina. And even though he says he loves her, we think all Hannah could see in his eyes was desperation to see Mikkel. And she simply walks away.

Our guess is Hannah develops an affair with the young Tiedemann police officer – notice the smile they share towards the end. The third season will show us what she is going to be up to because one thing is for sure — Hannah is not going to go back to her time.

The first two seasons of 'Dark' are streaming on Netflix right now. The show has been renewed for a third season, which is likely to see a 2020 release.
