‘Dancing with the Stars’: Johnny Weir's high score of 24 has upset fans saying ‘judges went easy on him’ 

They clearly impressed the judges unlike their previous performance, which only earned them 18 in the overall score

There was no dearth of magic on the stage of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as the latest (September 28) episode showcased a series of mind-blowing performances built around songs from Disney movies. The Disney night came across as a fresh breath of air amid the ongoing pandemic as the contestants and their dancing partners took to stage to put their talent on display, moving and grooving to Disney classics. 

American figure skater Johnny Weir and his pro-dancing partner Britt Stewart were among the high ranked couples on the Disney night as they obtained a total score of 24 for their performance to a song from ‘Mulan’. They clearly impressed the judges unlike their previous performance, which only earned them 18 in the overall score. While Carrie Ann Inaba said that she was thrilled to watch Johnny make a smooth transition in his latest act and encouraged him to “think up”, Derek Hough expressed a similar opinion by calling his performance “beautiful”. Meanwhile, Bruno complemented the shapes and extensions that he noticed in Johnny’s moves. He also noted that he loved the fact that he wasn’t closed in. 

However, fans of ‘DWTS’ seem irked upon witnessing the judges’ reactions to Johnny’s performance as some of them tweeted about them “going easy” on the skater to not “hurt” his feelings. Following his previous performance, Johnny reportedly told US Weekly, “I’m a perfectionist and want 10s every week. That was the goal coming in here. Even if I didn’t get them, I worked really hard to be at the level to possibly get a 10. But if there’s anybody in this cast that has been judged face to face it’s me, and I’ve dealt with it for years.”

One of the fans of 'DWTS' tweeted, "The judges went easy on Johnny Weir. They didn’t wanna hurt his feelings again #DancingWiththeStars". Another wrote, "Outrageously high scores for the corrupt Johnny Weir on #dwts tonight. I haven't been so enraged since Tonya Harding was on the program. Two of skating's lowest "stars" being enabled on national television. #grotesque". While another added, "I cannot believe Johnny Weir lowered himself to be on this joke of a show. It's so awful, I can't even begin." Another viewer who didn't approve of Johnny's act tweeted, "@DancingABC Johnny Weir likes himself so much does need a partner. Really.
