A man who was wading through shallow waters off the coast of the Northern Territory Down Under, Australia, was bitten on the groin by a saltwater crocodile after he mistakenly stepped on the reptile.

Elston Lami Lami, who belongs to the Minkilang community on Croker Island, was hunting through the murky water when he stepped on what he thought was a submerged log around 12.30 pm on October 26, ABC Darwin reports.

While the reptile stayed still beneath his foot, the 42-year-old quickly realized what he was standing on. About 15 seconds later, he was aggressively flipped by the crocodile before clamping its jaws on his upper right leg.

Speaking to the ABC, Lami Lami recounted the horrifying ordeal.

"When he come up, when he flipped me and I looked at his eye, he had that crocodile tears on it. Like... you're mine. You're my lunch", he told the outlet.

Lami Lami kicked the animal with his other leg and managed to free himself. However, the crocodile attacked once again, this time biting him on the groin.

The 42-year-old did not give up. He proceeded to repeatedly punch the massive reptile before his barking dogs and a shouting relative managed to distract the beast and he escaped.

"I hit him three times in the nose, he let me go. Come back again, try and attack me. When he snapped at me, I grabbed him, held him at the jaw with two hands and I was getting weak so I thought the only way to get his attention, I had to hit him again", he said.

According to Lami Lami, the crocodile was at least 4.5 meters long. The victim managed to endure a half-hour walk back to his car in excruciating pain following the attack. He was then rushed to the Minjilang Community Health Centre.

Lami Lami was later airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital by a CareFlight medical response group. Fortunately, he remains in stable condition as he undergoes a full recovery at the hospital.
