2019 is the year of massive crossover events, with 'Avengers: Endgame' having set the bar by uniting the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the ultimate showdown and now The CW is trying to capture some of that crossover magic with the upcoming 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' event.

It's the biggest thing television has ever seen, involving a lot of planning and setting up across all the Arrowverse shows and no show has set up the event better than the very first of the bunch, 'Arrow'.

Considering 'Arrow' Season 8 is the final season of the show, the fans were always hopeful that it would do justice to the series' history and not be just another final gasp like the last season of 'Game of Thrones'. But the show has exceeded all expectations by putting out one of the best seasons of any Arrowverse show ever, while also simultaneously setting up 'Crisis' to perfection.

Every episode of Season 8 has been an extremely well-crafted work of art. Every episode of Season 8 has been an extremely well-crafted setup for 'Crisis'. These two statements aren't mutually exclusive, they're complementary.

Taken individually, each episode's story has paid tribute to elements from the show's history and told excellent standalone stories but when seen as a whole, the greater picture begins to emerge. In Episode 7 'Purgatory', the last 'Arrow' story before 'Crisis', it was revealed that each and every mission that Team Arrow has undertaken all season has been a part of the plan to save the multiverse.

Even when Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) was trying to kill the Monitor / Mar Novu (LaMonica Garrett), he was still fulfilling his role in the cosmic being's plan. There have been no loose threads, no unnecessary beats all season and the best part? 'Arrow' did it all without compromising on the quality of its own story, proving once again why it is and always will be the best of them all.

'Crisis on Infinite Earths' begins with 'Supergirl' on December 8, airing exclusively on The CW.
