A riveting crime drama, ‘Coyote’ tells the tale of Ben Clemens (Michael Chiklis), who after 32 years as a border patrol agent is forced to work for the very people he spent his career trying to keep out of the United States. Now exposed to life on the other side of the wall, Ben will start to question his black and white views of the world, challenging his ideology and his loyalties.

Through the first few episodes, he ends up with a local drug cartel and is forced to become a “coyote” — one of the human-smugglers he once used to hunt. Soon, he is tasked to save a young and pregnant Salvadoran woman, María Elena Flores (Emy Mena), who is the girlfriend of one of the town's especially ruthless crime bosses. His actions put his estranged San Diego family at risk, and to save them, he must start doing the bidding of his sworn enemies.

The last episode of the six-episodic series begins in Guerrero in 2005 as a group of kids play hide-and-seek. A child is warned, "never give away something you love," by his miserly biological father as he cruelly feeds the kid's watermelon lollipop to his pet dog. The same becomes true for the later part of the show, when the low-key, terrifying Ben Clemens attracts himself to newer dangers after his retirement party. But this time, on the other side of the coin, he uncovers a radical truth from the life he was apparently going to leave.

We catch glimpses of seen-before brotherly rifts but he found himself lost in the same world of crime. He's caught by the CIA, and yet he presents them to the idea of becoming an informant for them. Even after his retirement, which was forced, he continues on this path but without the legal obligation. The climactic twist leaves room for more and could develop into a stronger second season — if one is greenlit soon.

The first season of 'Coyote' aired Thursday, January 7 on CBS All Access with all six episodes dropping at once.
