Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, has declared that he will provide the US with one million face masks and 500,000 coronavirus test kits. He added that his donation will help the world's largest economy to fight the pandemic which has killed thousands globally.

Ma, China's richest man, announced the donation on March 13 through his account on Weibo, a Twitter-like Chinese social media site. The business tycoon said that he has managed to get the supplies of masks and test kits and will soon send them out 'as donations to the American people’.

In his online post, Ma said: “Based on the counter-epidemic experience we have gained in the past months, quick and accurate test solution and protective equipment for medical workers are the key goods to stop the epidemic from escalating. Hopefully, these supplies can help some people in the United States.”

Terming coronavirus the ‘big epidemic challenge’, the self-made billionaire noted, “To this day, it is no longer a challenge any country can overcome by itself, but one that all of us need to face together hand-in-hand. Right now, only when we share resources without judgment and exchange counter-epidemic experience and lessons can we have the chance to defeat this disaster.” He ended his post on a very positive note, saying, “United we stand, divided we fall!”

However, the US is not the first country where Ma is donating. He has previously helped Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Europe by offering millions of masks and test kits to help them in fighting this fast-spreading deadly disease. Not only this, but he has also donated $14.4M to help scientists develop vaccines for the coronavirus.

The announcement from Ma came amid the tensions spewing between Beijing and Washington as they accuse each other of not doing enough to check the disease.
