Comic-Con 2020: 'Star Trek: Prodigy' animated show set for Nickelodeon, fans hope it's set in Discovery's time

On its second day, we got to see the 'Star Trek' panel. Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin opened the panel and this was followed by a table read of the Season 2 finale of 'Star Trek: Discovery' followed by a Q&A with the cast, featuring the stars of 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds', creator Mike McMahan and the voice cast of the upcoming animated 'Star Trek: Lower Decks' and 'Star Trek: Picard' featuring Patrick Stewart and cast. The panel discussion was moderated by Dominic Patten.
Much to the joy of many fans, Kadin announced that 'Star Trek: Prodigy', an animated kids show will be coming to Nickelodeon, which will premiere in 2021. 'Star Trek' has taken on animation lately, as the show 'Lower Decks' is another animated series that runs on CBS.
'Prodigy' is the sixth “Trek” series in development ever since the franchise returned to TV with 'Star Trek: Discovery' on CBS All Access, followed by 'Star Trek: Picard'. 'Star Trek: Prodigy' is being developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman.
"Announced at Comic-Con@Home: New Nickelodeon #StarTrek CG-animated series will be titled 'Star Trek: Prodigy.' Due in 2021, it 'follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation," one summarized.
"They just revealed Star Trek: Prodigy! A kid-focused Star Trek series on Nickelodeon!! #ComicConAtHome #StarTrek," a fan wrote. "I hope Star Trek Prodigy is set in Discovery's new time period. Use that blank canvas to your advantage," said another.
Fans are quite excited about this and are busy flooding social media with tweets. "So, Star Trek: Prodigy is the name of the Nickelodeon kids animated show! Nice! #ComicConatHome #startrek #startrekprodigy," a fan wrote.
"Big news at the start of the #StarTrek panel at #SDCC: Confirmation of a new show called "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" that will revisit classic characters over 10 episodes & a kid-friendly animated show on Nickelodeon called "Star Trek: Prodigy," another fan tweeted.
Others are not looking forward to it. "I liked Discovery and Picard, but not looking forward to Prodigy," a fan tweeted. "Oh nice. A new star trek animation series for the kids today. Also is that the original star trek logo on top of prodigy?"
