Colin Kaepernick is clearly in very high demand when it comes to jerseys. Sporting retail giant Nike had offered a special limited edition CK7 jersey on its website on Thursday morning, September 17, TMZ reports. It has been reported that within three-four minutes of being on sale on the site, the limited edition jersey was completely sold out.

The jersey is now being called 'The Icon 2.0' and marks the 4th anniversary of Kaepernick taking to the knee during the national anthem. Back in 2016, Kaepernick was seen kneeling while the US national anthem was played before a game as a protest against racial injustice, police brutality, and systemic oppression in the country. Ever since then, he has not played a season in the NFL. The jersey is said to sell at $150 but just minutes after they were put on sale on Nike, the jerseys were up for resale on sites such as StockX and eBay for 3 times more the price. One jersey on StockX had sold for $400 with many being sold within the $400-$500 price range.

Kaepernick took to his Instagram to share a post on the jersey and wrote, "Four years ago, I took a knee to protest against systemic racism and social injustice. It was that day that the number on my jersey would come to represent something greater than football, something greater than me."

"Since then, the number 7 jersey has become a symbol for advancing the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities. Thank you for staying True," the post continued.

Many social media users commented on the post asking why the jersey was limited edition and saying they all wanted one. One such user shared, "I don’t understand why we CANT have the product. Extremely disappointed in how Nike is making this so limited." The complains continued: "SOLD out in 3min smh I didn’t have a chance," a fan commented.

Another user commented and wrote, "I had it in my cart at 7:01 clicked purchase, and then got a “we’ll tell you if you got it” message and nothing!!! This sucks!!!! Can you mass produce the jersey again and mass production of sneakers please!!?? It’s obvious we will buy them all!!"

Others praised Kaepernick for being a perfect example and a great role model. One such user had commented and said, "Thank you for your actions that changed the entire world of sports. Your actions became a model for others and now it’s normalized behavior. But you did it first and your courageousness spread. Thank you, brother!!!"

Another said, "Question? Why is it that all my man’s @Kaepernick7 did 4 years ago for racial injustice and they are practicing it today; when it is a shame that it took 4 years!!! Why hasn’t my man’s been accepted yet from the @NFL to be a quarterback for a team? #4everkapernickfan #blm."

Off the field, Kaepernick seems to be doing well as his Nike merchandise has been on high demand and he has also been ranked as the top free-agent QB in the Madden 2021 video game. On the field however, Kaepernick has not received any offer to tryout for an NFL club.
