'Cloak and Dagger' canceled after 2 seasons, Tandy and Tyrone to make final appearance on Hulu's 'Runaways' Season 3
Marvel's 'Cloak and Dagger' has been canceled by Freeform after season 2. The announcement came October 24 after changes in the leadership of Marvel's TV division. The show which portrayed the lives of two teenagers - Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) - with superpowers came to an end after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took control of the studio's television division.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the cancellation has come with the studio's television leader Jeph Loeb leaving the company. Loeb developed 'Cloak and Dagger' and the announcement about him leaving his position at Marvel is expected to be made before Thanksgiving.
In a statement, Freeform said, "We are so proud of Marvel’s 'Cloak and Dagger' and the trailblazing stories this series told. We are also grateful to our incredible talent Oliva Holt and Aubrey Joseph for bringing these beloved characters to life, and showrunner Joe Pokaski for his vision. We’d like to thank our partners at Marvel Television for a wonderful two seasons and are we are hopeful that we can find another project together."
Fans, who heard the news have since noted that the second season of the show had thankfully not ended on a cliffhanger. Since the show had closed most of the threads it was expected to explore, the fans' disappointment was not as big as expected.
Reddit user LiquidLispyLizard wrote, "Well, that's interesting to say the least. I'm glad that it didn't end on a cliffhanger and that we're going to be getting more of them in Runaways Season 3 in a few months, but this is kind of upsetting." User TheSweatband wrote, "Damn, such a good show. Unfortunate, but a well tied up ending is some solace."
Fans are also looking forward to the 'Cloak and Dagger' crossover event with Marvel's 'Runaways' on Hulu. The crossover event was announced by Hulu in August. DCEnigma wrote, "The number of shows that marvel hasn’t allowed to live past season 2 or 3 is insane. I know people keep saying this, but I really hope these two show up elsewhere (past the Runaways crossover), especially given that it works for their characters to just wander in and out of other people’s stories."
