'City on a Hill' Season 3 on Showtime: Will Amanda Clayton return in the latest installment?
'City on a Hill' Season 3 is one of the major blockbusters hitting TV in July. The Showtime drama starring Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge was one of the hit crime dramas of 2019 and the network followed it up with a second installment in 2021. Set in the early ‘90s Boston, a corrupt FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Bacon) forms an unlikely alliance with ADA Decourcy Ward (Hodge). The initial period of the 1990s was filled with violence in Boston and together, the aforementioned officials take on a case that changes the city's entire criminal justice system. The first two seasons were a huge success and it doesn’t come as a shock that the series has been renewed for another season.
Originally set for a July 10 release, the postponement was a bit of a dampener for fans after it was pushed to July 31. With a new date and a new storyline to boot, 'City on a Hill' also brings in a slew of new characters this time around. Meanwhile, some of the old characters make an exit and one of them is Amanda Clayton who played Cathy Ryan in Seasons 1 and 2.

Will Amanda Clayton return as Cathy Ryan in 'City on a Hill' Season 3?
Such was the way the character arc unfolded that Amanda Clayton's Cathy Ryan might be one of the notable absentees in 'City on a Hill' Season 3. She makes a bit of a clean getaway in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale 'Pax Bostonia', especially after her storyline decreased by the episode over the course of the season. While she had her connection through drug dealing for Anton's crew, there wasn't much to do once she dispatches her brother-in-law. In the end, she just moves away from Boston signaling the end of her character arc.

To bring her back would require having a concrete storyline for her, but that looks mighty unlikely given the trailer shows new characters in Joanne Kelly, Ernie Hudson, and Corbin Bernsen. The official synopsis reads, "Season three brings us to Boston's high society Beacon Hill. Having left the FBI and thrown his badge into Boston Harbor, Jackie Rohr (Bacon) lands a lavish new gig running security for a wealthy family. Life is good until secrets begin to unravel. When an investigation opens, ADA Decourcy Ward (Hodge) sees an opportunity to finally rip out the machinery perpetuating a broken criminal justice system."
"Siobhan Quays (Banks), representing a construction worker who was severely injured on the Big Dig, encounters the city’s corruption firsthand, all while coping with the traumatic events of her past year. As Jenny Rohr (Hennessy) can attest, given her history with her father, some experiences will haunt you beyond your breaking point."
'City on a Hill' Season 3 premieres July 31, 2022, at 10 pm ET on Showtime.
