Teacher who was caught by husband having sex with teen student in their bedroom sentenced to 20 months in prison
Andrea Baber, 30, pleaded guilty to three counts of third-degree rape and six counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor after which she was jailed for 20 months.
A Christian school teacher has been sentenced to 20 months in prison after she was caught by her husband while having sex with her 15-year-old male student.
Andrea Baber, 30, of Curtin, was caught engaging in sexual intercourse with the student in 2017 and was sentenced in Douglas County on Friday after pleading guilty to three counts of third-degree rape and six counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, Daily Mail reports.
When she was arrested in 2017, Baber was charged with third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, first-degree online sexual corruption of a minor and unlawful delivery of marijuana, according to online court records.
About 20 other charges against the teacher including anal intercourse and giving marijuana to a minor were dropped as part of a plea deal. However, she has been ordered to register as a sex offender.
The victim's father had received an anonymous email alerting him to the relationship between his son and Baber, who was teaching at Logos Christian Academy in Springfield during her arrest in 2017. The email, which asked the father if he knew his son was in a sexual relationship with Baber, contained several photos of her and the victim in bed together. As soon as he went through the mail, he reported it to authorities.
In the meantime, Baber's husband had also found his wife and the boy partially clothed in their bed, forcing him to file a report with child protective services. Upon investigation, police found Baber and the student had maintained an active sexual relationship since 2016.
According to the News-Review, Baber apologized to the 15-year-old student and his family during her sentencing. "I want to extend my apologies to the victim and his family, and I am happy to serve this sentence if it satisfies the victims family, but I know I was not justified," she said. Aside from the prison sentence, the 30-year-old teacher is also required to pay $1,100 of restitution to the victim for counseling.
