When will 'Chicago Med' Season 6 Episode 3 air? Here's what to expect when the NBC drama returns

While the third episode may answer pending questions, viewers will have to wait a few weeks to get their answers

2020 has been a difficult year and it is no different for fans of NBC's 'Chicago' franchise. Not only did the previous seasons of 'Chicago Med', 'Chicago PD' and 'Chicago Fire' end prematurely because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the fall seasons for all three shows arrived much later than usual. Moreover, it was only after the second episodes for all three shows aired that viewers came to know their wait for new episodes will be longer as the shows go on their winter breaks.

'Chicago Med' has generally been the weakest show among the 'Chicago' franchise, and even then, it has been a strong show. However, with the new season, 'Chicago Med' has easily become the strongest on the roster. The addition of the pandemic seems to have taken the need for dramatic, soap opera plotlines away from the writers, improving the show immensely. When the 'Chicago' shows returned in November, we were immensely impressed, especially with the way the show handled the pandemic. Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) have their plates full for this season.

The writers also chose to end the ridiculous relationship between Dr Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) after the latter overdosed and decided to head to rehab. Will realized a little too late that their relationship was toxic and while Hannah may be gone, he may be feeling the aftermath of choosing to be in that relationship. For one thing, hospital admin Sharon Goodwin (S Epatha Merkerson) did not even consider him for the role of the new Emergency Department chief, which went to Ethan Choi instead. Will is told that his tendency to make impulsive decisions affected her impression of him. Does this mean that Will could work with the new character, Dr Sabeena Virani (Tehmina Sunny) on a new clinical trial?

While the third episode may answer that question, viewers will have to wait a few weeks to get their answer. Though it came late, 'Chicago Med' is already going on its winter break, and will not return until January. 'Chicago' Wednesdays will resume on January 6, 2021. The wait may seem long, but fans can always rewatch previous seasons to prepare for the new episodes. There are a few things to look forward to when 'Chicago Med' returns. Will Dr Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) become a couple? The two have been growing closer and because it looks like the Manstead ship is definitely over, Natalie may actually be moving on for good.

Meanwhile, as we mentioned, Ethan is the new ED chief and he plans to change up things because the ED has not been performing as well. His attempt to micromanage did not sit well with Will, however, and we hope this does not get in the way of their professional relationship. Some of Will's best scenes comes when he collaborates and works well with his colleagues, so we hope that he and Ethan are able to work out their issues.

'Chicago Med' will return with new episodes on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 8/7c.
