In what must be thrilling news for fans of 'Chicago Fire', it has been confirmed that Monica Raymund will reprise her role as original character Gabriela "Gabby" Dawson for the winter finale. Written by Derek Haas, the episode is titled 'Best Friend Magic' and will air on November 20, 2019.

Raymund exited the show in its season 7 premiere. In the previous season, she left the fire department to do relief work in Puerto Rico. She asked her then-husband, Matthew Casey, to go with her, but he did not want to. Later, when he gets ready to go down to Puerto Rico and talk to her, she comes to Chicago and asks for a divorce. The two split amicably but we can certainly expect something to happen in this season's winter finale.

Haas told Entertainment Weekly that Dawson is returning to raise funds for her aid organization and "stops by Firehouse 51 to see Otis’ memorial and to reconnect with everyone." EW also spoke to Raymund who said, "Fans can expect sparks to fly from the Dawson and Casey reunion. Dawson and Casey will always have an unbreakable bond, and their love is a special love that I think will forever stay alive. The fans don’t want to miss this episode — we get to see Dawson and Casey’s love in a new light."

However, fans shouldn't expect Dawson to stick around as Raymund is playing the lead role in the upcoming Starz network show, 'Hightown'. Raymund's appearance is likely to be a one-off, where we could also expect to hear news of her brother Antonio Dawson, who left the Intelligence Unit after actor Jon Seda's exit in the 'Chicago P.D.' season 6 finale.

Antonio was sent to an off-the-books drug rehab but instead of returning to work, Voight tells the team that he went to Puerto Rico to be with family.

'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
