'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 7 will see Severide mulling his decision to transfer to the Office of Fire Investigations

We might also get some Brett and Casey moments and Cruz will be demonstrating his new invention.

With just a few episodes to go before the winter finale, 'Chicago Fire' will see a character undergoing a major change with respect to their career. Last week's episode saw Kelly Severide and Joe Cruz investigate a house fire and find the person responsible for it.

It's not the first time Severide has shown off his detective skills, and it won't be the last either. With Severide having such a knack for successfully completing these investigations, we might even see him transfer to the Office of Fire Investigations (OFI) and this week's episode might set it in motion. This will be the main theme for Severide this week, and he will be faced with a tough decision regarding his future at Firehouse 51. Transferring to the OFI means Severide will not be seen around at 51 as much anymore, much to fans' dismay, but it could open up a whole new avenue for the show.

Since Otis's death in the first episode of the eighth season, Cruz has been trying his best to move on while putting on a brave face. He got engaged in the episode two weeks ago and last week he asked Severide to be his best man. This week will see him demonstrate an invention of his called the Slamigan at the Firefighting Expo and he seems quite excited about it, handing out custom-made shirts to those at 51.

Meanwhile, this week will feature a hostage situation, featuring a man doped up on a drug and holding a woman hostage. The firefighters have to figure out a way to rescue this woman without the use of their firetrucks so as not to spook the man.

Also, those waiting for Brett and Casey moments might be in luck this week. When Brett tells Foster that the social worker from a previous episode, Ryan, texted her regarding a young boy Brett and Foster treated from that same episode, Casey listens in and seems to be showing a jealous streak.

'Chicago Fire' will air on NBC on Wednesday nights.
