Spoiler alert for 'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 15

While Sean Roman's return and the crossover with 'Chicago PD' might have been the biggest things on 'Chicago Fire' this week, Captain Matthew Casey and paramedic Sylvie Brett got some scenes of their own too as showrunner Derek Haas continues with the slow burn that is Brett's and Casey's will-they-won't-they relationship.

Over the past couple of episodes, we have seen Casey and Brett have some intimate conversations where they certainly got to know about each other and grew closer. When Brett received the letter about her birth-mom, she entrusted Casey with it.

Casey offers to drive Brett to meet her mother in this week's episode and that is just what happens. On their way to the address, Brett opens up to him on what she feels about the situation.

However, when Brett rings the bell a man opens the door to tell her that the woman she is looking for does not live there, albeit nervously. Confused, Brett and Casey return to Chicago where Brett talks to her fellow paramedic Emily Foster to process her emotions.

Later, Brett's birth-mother shows up at the firehouse and tells Brett that she wants Brett back in her life. There is another surprise -- Brett's birth-mother is pregnant, the first time since Brett was born.

Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately, considering the look on Brett's face), the paramedics and the firefighters are called on an emergency. As they leave, Casey looks at Brett with concern.

Later on at the scene, before Casey gets ready to go inside a burning building to look for survivors, Brett and Casey share another intense look.

When Haas said that the Casey-Brett relationship would be a slow-burning one, he wasn't kidding. Though fans are loving the "Brettsey" tidbits they are getting, they are also getting frustrated at the slow pace.

One fan tweeted, "@derekhaas I hope that you are building to some sort of breakthrough between Brett and Casey it’s been on all of our minds since last season. And these longing looks make it seem like it’s more. Help the fans out."

Another wrote, "This relationship between Sylvie Brett and Matthew Casey is moving at the pace of the snail. #Brettsey #casett just when I think that they are finally going to be more than just friends?"

One viewer said, "Can Sylvie Brett and Matthew Casey at least hold each other's hands give each other a hug or something because it is getting to be so annoying?"

'Chicago Fire' airs on Wednesday nights on NBC at 9 pm/8c.
