Golden Globes 2021: Chadwick Boseman wins Best Actor Drama for 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom', fans left teary-eyed

Boseman's wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award and her speech had fans 'crying like a baby'

The 78th Golden Globe Awards was hosted in two different locations for the first time in history. Comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the ceremony on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from New York City's Rainbow Room and Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills respectively.

All eyes were on the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category and the winner was Chadwick Boseman for 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'. The other nominations for the category included Riz Ahmed for 'Sound of Metal', Anthony Hopkins for 'The Father', Gary Oldman for 'Mank' and Tahar Rahim for 'The Mauritanian'.

'I'm a puddle'

Accepting on behalf of Boseman was his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward. "He would thank God, he would thank his parents, he would thank his ancestors for their guidance," said she. Fans were in tears along with Ledward, "The Golden Globes didn’t make me cry until Chadwick Boseman won and his beautiful widow gave THAT SPEECH. I’m a puddle," said a fan. "#GoldenGlobes God bless Simone. I know this is hard, but she represented her King tonight. We are with you. #ChadwickBoseman #maraineysblackbottom #MaRainey #BlackPanther #GoldenGlobesTNT #GoldenGlobesAwards," said another. "Watching the "Golden Globes Awards" and Chadwick Boseman's wife got me crying like a baby," said another fan.

"I know ur looking down & I knew you’d win this golden globe! Ur amazing still shining! @chadwickboseman I’m tearing up on how well u did in ur last performance! May you be remembered for the beauty of all you brought us! My love is kissed upon the heavens for you! #GoldenGlobes," said a tweet. 



 



 



 



 

'His best and tragically, his last'

"If you have not seen “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” yet, you should. Not only is it a really great film... ...But it definitely, absolutely is, the late, great Chadwick Boseman’s best performance of his career. And it’s tragically poetic, that it’s his last," said another.



 

The official 2021 Golden Globe Awards was telecasted on February 28 at 8 pm ET and the pre-show was streamed live from the official @GoldenGlobes Twitter account and on the website goldenglobes.com at 6.30 pm ET.
