‘Central Park’, Apple TV+’s new animated musical comedy series has already received positive reviews for its ‘Bob’s Burgers’-style visuals, its catchy show tunes, and its wholesome characters. Created by Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad, and Nora Smith, the series follows the Tillerman family that lives inside Central Park in New York City. Owen (Leslie Odom Jr.), the park manager, and Paige (Kathryn Hahn), his journalist wife, and their kids Molly (Kristen Bell) and Cole (Tituss Burgess) lead a blissful life.

Things change when Bitsy Brandenham (Stanley Tucci), a bite-sized, evil, old hotel heiress, tired of the park’s views from her penthouse balcony, decides to do something about it. She plans to destroy the park and replace it with a slew of condominiums.

Paige, who has to report on a town meeting, discovers the early stages of Bitsy’s evil plans by accident. The Central Park League, at the meeting, have a debate which could impact the funding for the park. Bitsy, meanwhile, announces her plans to a group of wealthy businessmen and shareholders in a secret meeting.

Despite the plan being in motion, the Tillermans are unaware of the plans. Paige may know something fishy is up. But she still doesn’t have the complete picture. So, what can we expect next?

Episode 3’s title ‘Hat Luncheon’ reveals little about what to expect. But one can expect a few things. For one, in the context of the show’s main plot, one can hope to see Paige do more digging. With aspirations of being a reporter who does quote-unquote important and serious stories, this would ideally be Paige’s opportunity to get a big scoop. The only questions are: is she up to the task, and will she do whatever it takes to get the story?

There is also the crucial issue of time: Will Paige be able to get to the bottom of this conspiracy before Bitsy manages to make her killing move?

In terms of subplots, there is all the likeliness of Molly getting further ahead with her romantic interest: Eugene Cordero’s Brendan, a boy who flies kites in the park. Molly’s crush on the boy is more than visible as she draws superhero scenarios with him in her notebook. But will she be able to tell him how she feels? Or being the socially awkward teen she is, will she shy away from if and when an opportunity arises?

Then there is Cole. The sweet happy-go-lucky goof has only one dream, to be reunited with Shampagne, Bitsy’s pet dog who she coddles and smothers to the point of torture. Cole and Shampagne formed a special bond when the two found each other in the park. But obviously, Cole had to return it to Bitsy. Maybe this episode will somehow see the two reunited again. After all, their bond seems to be the most wholesome.

As for Owen, one can only guess he’ll find himself totally immersed in some aspect of the park that he upkeeps.

Hopefully, episode 3 of ‘Central Park’ will answer all these questions. Catch new episodes of the show every Friday on Apple TV+.
