'Catfish': What's the truth about Micah? Ryan's quarantine bae's request for money raises doubts
A new episode of 'Catfish' will air in an hour from now. For the past couple of episodes, viewers have seen hosts Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford help people confirm if the ones they were talking to online and investing themselves emotionally in are indeed who they claim to be. This season has seen a lot of wild revelations but the upcoming episode, from the looks of the trailer makes it seems like this might be a level up from the past.
The episode will feature Ryan who reached out to Nev and Kamie to determine if this woman he's been talking to is indeed the one who she claims to be. He initially matched with Micah on Tinder and they have been texting constantly during the entire course of the lockdown that was imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic. She also sent Ryan a couple of nudes, the ones that were taken along with her face which makes it seem legit. However, like in all cases on the show, the couple have never spoken over the phone: neither voice nor video calls. The entire conversation, beginning to end, has always been on texts and dms on social media and Ryan is now having second thoughts about the identity of the person he's been talking to. To fuel his doubts further, Micah had requested money from Ryan who chose to honor it and sent across $500 but he suddenly got a feeling that his quarantine bae might be more interested in his wallet than him. Will Nev and Kamie be able to get to the bottom of this? Will Micah turn out to be the same girl as the photos that are on her social media as well as the pictures she sent to Ryan? Tune in to the episode to find out.
'Catfish' has been on the air for 8 seasons and it went virtual for Season 9, keeping in terms with COVID-19 regulations. Speaking about the challenges that come with shooting this show from home, Nev in a conversation with 'Good Morning America' host Amy Robach said that the technology bit was a bit difficult to navigate. However, certain aspects also got easier to handle for example there were no flight tickets or rooms to be booked, no rental cars were needed and he said the process felt much more streamlined this time around. Robach then asked first-time 'Catfish' host Kamie to give out a tip that people could follow in order to avoid being trapped, chances of which are higher now since everyone's home and online. Kamie responded saying that the thing that could be done to avoid such situations is requesting a video call or atleast a voice call with the person one's been talking to. She also said that one should find another options if these requests aren't honored.
'Catfish' airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on MTV.
