Is Carlos Santana OK? Fans concerned after guitarist, 74, collapses on stage during Michigan concert

The incident occurred after a year of his heart surgery. He had planned for a comeback in January 2021

Update: A statement from Carlos Santana’s PR says the singer was overcome with heat exhaustion and dehydration and is now doing well. He was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation, his manager Michael Vrionis shared.  'The show for July 6 at the Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, PA will be postponed to a later date, details of which will be available through Live Nation.

Guitar great Carlos Santana suffered a health scare during his performance at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Michigan on Tuesday, July 5. Approximately 55 minutes into his set, the 74-year-old rocker collapsed on stage when he was introducing the song ‘Joy’ which is a collaboration with Chris Stapleton.
 
Santana is not the first artist to collapse on stage as K-pop crooner Wonho suffered the same on the second day of his concert in November 2021. In the year 2018, Marylin Manson collapsed on stage during his Houston gig after suffering from "heat poisoning". In March 2020, a fan recalled how BTS during their DNA era in 2017 had collapsed on the floor after their exhausting show.  Comedian Heather McDonald fractured his skull after collapsing on stage in February 2022.

Is Carlos Santana OK?

According to TMZ, Santana sat down in front of the drums after realizing something was wrong. He then collapsed backwards. The staff members then quickly rushed to his aid. A video of him waving his hand from behind a black tarp surfaced as he was wheeled off the stage. At the time of writing this article, it is still unclear why Santana collapsed but the incident occurred after a year of his heart surgery. MEAWW will keep you updated. A tweet from a Fox News journalist revealed, “Carlos Santana just passed out on stage," adding, “Medical personnel on stage. Crowd asked to pray for him because of a 'serious medical' issue."

Following his heart surgery, the musician had canceled his seven shows, according to The Sun . He reportedly planned for a comeback in January 2021. “I'm going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure I replenish, and I rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I will play the way I'm used to and give you 150 percent”, said Santana.

Social media users rushed to Twitter to wish the legendary guitarist a speedy recovery. “I read “pass” and freaked out”, said one as another chimed in, “Carlos Santana collapsed on stage 15 minutes ago and hes still down... scary moment right now. Idk what I believe but I'm putting up prayers right now, maybe do the same if you feel it in your heart, this man is an absolute treasure.”
 
The next one added, “Hope he’s ok.  He’s an incredibly talented and beautiful soul.” Whereas, one posted, “I hope Carlos has many years of music and joy to give. He is one of the true greats.” Another shared, “I wish good vibes and smooth  gigs for Mr Santana. He is one of the best.” And, one added, “LORD JESUS YOU ARE NOT TAKING CARLOS SANTANA TODAY.” One user concluded, “All the prayers and energy to Carlos Santana, he killed every moment before he passed out.”  



 



 



 



 



 



 



 



 

On hearing that the singer was recovering well, fans breathed a sigh of relief.



 

One fan wrote: "It's been 60% humidity there - those wet bulb temps are no joke, even if you stay hydrated, it can still get ya." Another shared: "Heat exhaustion is no picnic, but I'm glad it's nothing worse. A speedy and thorough recovery to Mr. Santana. "
