'Captain Marvel': New featurette proves Brie Larson is the superhero we deserve, expect some serious butt whooping
One of the most powerful superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel, is one of the fiercest fighters ever, so, expect some of the best fight scenes ever seen
‘Captain Marvel’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and why not, with Brie Larson at the center, this movie will mark the first time a female superhero gets a solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If DC’s ‘Wonder Woman’ proved anything, it is that audiences are definitely eager for female-centric movies, especially ones where they kick some super villain butt and prove good will always trump bad.
Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers, despite her superhuman powers, is all about ending the war that will be the end of mankind. She wants to do good and ensure the villains aka Skrulls and Kree are put away. However, to do this she has to resort to some amount of fighting and she is more than willing to go down that road.
One of the most powerful – if not the most powerful – superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel is one of the fiercest fighters ever, and to that end, the movie is expected to have some of the best fight scenes we have ever seen.
As the film’s producer Jonathan Schwarz puts it, “I think part of what made us excited about the character was that she was such a powerful character in the comic books—and one of the most, if not the most, powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seeing all that brought to bear is one of the big pleasures of the movie.”
And, bring it all to bear, Larson did. She has definitely put in the work to deliver the best fight sequences, as can be seen in the most-recently released featurette of ‘Captain Marvel.’ In it, we see Larson undergoing some intense training, which included weight training and fight training. As co-director Anna Boden said, it was really important for Larson to learn to fight, and she did, almost nine months prior to shooting the film.
“Doing fight sequences up and down a train for three days, I felt kind of alive,” said an incredibly fit and strong Larson in the featurette, adding, “The thing that I found so unique about this character is the sense of humor mixed with total capability and whatever challenge comes her way, which I realized after going to the Air Force base that that’s what Air Force pilots are like.”
Larson is seen flying one a fighter aircraft while simulating a dog fight for the sequence, and she looks spectacularly in charge. “It was amazing,” she says after the scene is done, and as happy as she was at having completed the mission, fans had no doubt in her capabilities, nor did the commanders of 'Captain Marvel.’
“It’s a lot of, lot of work, she brings so much of that to the role. It’s awesome,” said Boden regarding her leading lady. We had no doubts about Larson being the perfect actor to bring the might of Captain Marvel to the screens, but this video cements the fact that she is, in fact, the perfect woman for the job and it definitely has us all the more excited about watching ‘Captain Marvel’ come March 8.
