'Burden of Truth' Season 3 Episode 5 Preview: Is Kodie getting framed? She might not be the only one

Millwood Family Services has already tampered with witnesses and looks like they might have malpractices to tweak case proceedings in ways more than one

Right at the end of Episode 4 titled 'Desperate Measures', we saw a very suspicious prosecution shoot a rather funny look at Joanna Chang (Kristin Kreuk) as they were exiting the courtroom. The prosecution was out for parental abduction charges against Kodie Chartrand (Sera-Lys McArthur). Kodie's custodial battle has been a wreck with her testing positive for drugs first, leading to a domino effect of terrible decisions, ending with her kidnapping her kids from foster care. While they managed to convince her to give herself up without issuing an Amber Alert for the kids, and Kodie did comply too, it was the final look the prosecution gave Joanna that had everyone's suspicions piqued. And if the synopsis for the upcoming Episode 5 is to be trusted, we weren't entirely wrong.

According to the official synopsis of Season 3's Episode 5, titled 'Crisis of Faith', "With more potential cases of wrongful child apprehensions, Joanna and Billy investigate Millwood Family Services and discover a potential error in the custody hearing evidence that will change everything in the case and in their lives." It's just the right kind of hopeful development one would want to look forward to after everything Joanna and Kodie have been through in this wrongful custody battle for the former addict. But whether or not things end with a win is yet to be decided.

Millwood Family Services has already tampered with witnesses and looks like they might have malpractices to tweak case proceedings in ways more than one. We saw Kodie's daughter True's biological grandmother paying Billy Crawford's (Peter Mooney) father Hank to testify against Kodie on grounds of child negligence. And that was what had dragged Kodie to court in the first place. Soon custody of both True and her older sister Madison went to Marlene, and once her lies were outed, that's when the two kids landed in foster care.

Kodie stole them, and eventually turned herself in because she didn't want her kids to go through the same turbulence of a foster system the way she had as a child, but looks like she can't protect them against the evils lingering closer home. We don't exactly know what this potential error is, which Joanna and Billy discovered in their investigation into Millwood Family Services' case files, but it's clear from the synopsis that this new lead suggests that Kodie was, in fact, being targeted unfairly, and the 'more potential cases' suggests she isn't the only one. What's left to unravel is just how, or who is pulling this cruel act with Kodie and other parents? What is their agenda? Hopefully, we will find that out soon.

'Burden of Truth' Season 3 airs on Thursdays at 8 pm only on The CW.
