'Bull' Season 5 Episode 5: Gay pastor storyline dubbed 'out of date', fans ask 'was it written 30 years ago?'
'Bull' is back from the Christmas holidays, and it's a thrilling, sordid episode. In Episode 5, Jason Bull (Michael Weatherly) is faced with a bizarre complex case that he can't make heads or tails of. A pastor has been accused of murdering his wife, and to the world, he would have motive. The pastor makes a surprising revelation to Bull, that he is gay. And, another twist: his wife Olivia was too. Bull and Benny Colon (Freddy Rodriguez) are wracking their brains and trying to get him out of this bear trap, but it is exceedingly difficult at the moment. The pastor had not revealed to Bull about his wife's sexuality, as he believed that she had a right to her privacy. He doesn't want to drag his own lover into the legal implications either. The prosecution is brutal at the moment and is asking leading questions, and the accused has not yet taken the stand.
Meanwhile, fans are stunned with the new case and are questioning what kind of church this was. "This episode! What kinda church these people running," one fan wrote. They feel that the pastor has a right to his privacy and this kind of scrutiny is painful to watch, and especially when someone's private life is laid bare. Others have called it a rather convoluted case and said that they would never like to attend a church like this. "What a convoluted case on #Bull," a fan wrote. "This one church I wouldn't want to attend #bull," one tweeted. "I can't imagine having my life put under a microscope in court for 12 strangers to judge. This case is excruciating. I feel for the pastor. He had a right to his privacy. #Bull@BullCBS," a fan wrote. "Did this episode of #Bull come from a script written like 30 years ago? It seems so out of date," another asked.
