When will 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 8 return?

Season 7 left us with Jake and Amy as new parents. How will that affect the show?

Every time a season of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' gets over, it leaves us wondering when NBC’s cop sitcom will be back for another season of goofy antics, laughter, and some well-placed sentimental moments. Season 7 of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' was not the best one yet. In fact, it was sort of the show’s weakest so far. But that doesn’t mean fans are tired of the show. They definitely still want more.

Where we left off

After an entire season of going back and forth while trying to conceive, detectives Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) are finally proud parents. Amy has her delivery after managing a city-wide lockout while Jake is out the entire time, trying to stop Brooklyn from entering full 'Purge' mode.

While Amy goes into full-on denial of needing a hospital, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) comes through once again. Much like the way she won her a baby stroller or the way they became the 'Sleuth Sisters', Rosa overcomes her fears of childbirth and actually gives firefighters a hand in Amy's delivery, while Jake is out there getting roped into the worst scenarios imaginable.

What we'd like to see

Season 7 signed off with a small hint that Season 8 might most likely be about Jake and Amy's parenting troubles. They will obviously be chaotic parents. Jake will be the fun dad and Amy will be the obsessive mom - a dangerous combo. But beyond the Jake-Amy parenting nightmare, we have all been missing Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti). The snarky, narcissistic and possibly sociopathic Gina was the life force of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, and it was one of the biggest reasons why Season 7 felt empty and off. The self-proclaimed human form of the “100 emoji” last appeared in a recurring feature on Season 6 episode 'Four Movements'.

As the only civilian in the precinct, as the Captain's assistant, Gina managed to make one of the significant impressions on her coworkers as well as viewers. One can only hope that Season 8 will finally see her returning for her regular role in the main cast.

When is it returning

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 8 has been delayed. It was originally expected to debut in the fall of 2020, however, the finished episodes were reportedly scrapped in June because showrunner Dan Goor decided they had to start over to include conversations about the Black Lives Matter movement. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Season 8 will be released in 2021 on NBC and NBC's streaming platform Peacock.
