What is the plot of 'Breakwater'?
According to the official synopsis, an ex-con fresh out of prison tracks down the estranged daughter of a fellow inmate (because that simply is not creepy, but we're sure he has good reason), but unbeknownst to him he also unlocks a violent past that threatens to engulf both him and the girl.
'Breakwater' cast
Dermot Mulroney
Dermot Mulroney's career was heading way past the stratosphere after 1997's 'My Best Friend's Wedding' but then it all went slightly off-track. Not to say that he hasn't done anything decent since then, but he's just failed to land those leading man roles that he seemed destined for. Maybe playing the villain in 'Breakwater' might change things, but no one's holding their breath. You can see him next in 2024's 'Long Shadows' alongside the eternally gorgeous Jacqueline Bisset.
Darren Mann
Canadian actor Mann is best known for his TV roles playing the young Baz in the hit TNT series 'Animal Kingdom; and Jack Dutton in the 'Yellowstone' universe spinoff '1923'. He is currently filming crime thriller 'And on the Eighth Day' alongside Mustafa Speaks and Lindsey Morgan.
Mena Suvari
When audiences saw Suvari at her siren best in 1999's 'American Beauty', especially after her comedic turn in the raunchy hit 'American Pie' the same year, they reckoned a new superstar was born. But things didn't quite turn out as they probably should have. Suvari's career didn't so much as plateau as it spiraled and a slew of strange parts in even stranger movies had most people writing her off. But we wouldn't. She was a late addition to the 'Breakwater' cast and has a host of new projects in the works: From the dark TV series 'Razr' to the sci-fi heist film 'The Dresden Sun' where she stars alongside Christina Ricci.
Is 'Breakwater' worth watching?
This is a tough one because casting signals give it a resounding yes, but the plot just seems a wee bit cliche. But that's not saying anything as much of Hollywood and streaming series these days absolutely love regurgitating cliches that were big in the 1980s and 90s. We would keep this for those frustrating days when there are a 1,000 movies on and nothing to watch.
