CHILLICOTHE, OHIO: A man from Chillicothe is now under trial after being accused of raping a young boy.

Brandon T Blevins, of 133 Race St., Chillicothe, is charged with rape, a first-degree felony, and two counts of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony. These charges were made after an incident from 2013-2014 came to light. Reports suggest that Blevins allegedly raped a boy who was 8 years old at the time.

According to the victim's testimony on Tuesday, March 23, the night of the alleged incident, the victim was having a nightmare, and went to sleep on the couch close to Blevins. He woke up to Blevins unzipping the victim's pants. The victim revealed that he told the defendant to stop and buttoned his pants back up. The defendant then allegedly unzipped the victim's pants again and performed sex acts on him, allegedly saying that it would be their "little secret."

The victim stated that he threatened Blevins by saying that he would "break their freaking back" to get him to stop, and then left. In July 2019, when the victim was 14 years old, he tried to end his life. At the time, the victim was living with his grandmother, while his mother was dealing with some serious drug issues. His grandmother called 911, noticing that the victim was lethargic, pale, and barely responsive after taking too many sleeping pills. The victim was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center and then to Children's Hospital in Columbus for further observation.

The victim was at the hospital for three days, where he told staffers about the alleged assault when he was 8. The victim's mother also testified that the defendant later admitted to the accusations to her, but claimed that she was extremely high when she heard the accusation from her son and the alleged confirmation from the defendant. She also stated that she did not go to law enforcement at that time because her son, the victim, asked her not to at that time.

"This case is really about the credibility of a very troubled teenager," said Lori Rankin, Blevins' attorney. "He's had a very difficult life, his mother chose to do drugs over taking care of him and left him in the custody of his grandmother and her husband, he's tried to kill himself in the past. He's been bullied at school, accused of being a school shooter... but he didn't make the accusation until he was 12, at a time he was desperate for the attention of his mother."

Rankin further stated that when the victim was 12, Children's Services took his interview on the same accusation. The victim would have a number of reasons to lie about the complaint, said Rankin, from needing attention from his mother to sympathy from his grandmother over the circumstances surrounding the accidental overdose, to anger at the defendant for personal reasons. "Maybe he dreamed it and now he's convinced it happened, these are possibilities," she said. The trial will resume on Wednesday, March 24.
