While the Season 7 premiere of 'Black-ish' is still a few weeks away, to mark that there is one month to go for the 2020 presidential elections, ABC aired a two-part election special on elections and voting issues on Sunday, October 4. While the first part focused on Andre "Junior" Johnson Jr (Marcus Scribner) learning about the real history of democracy in the United States after he learns that he has been purged from the voter rolls, the second episode is an animated special which focuses on the issue of big money in elections. Both episodes were directed by Academy Award-winning Matthew Cherry who won for 'Hair Love' earlier this year.

In the second part of the 'Black-ish' election special, when Andre "Dre" Johnson (Anthony Anderson) runs for Congress after Leslie Stevens (Peter Mackenzie) from his ad agency decides to run. Dre realized that Stevens does not know the common man and was just pandering to win, he believes himself to be more ideological and attuned to the common person. However, his candidacy derails through the episode even though he tries to get Stacey Abrams' (yes, the real Stacey Abrams) advice and endorsement, and he ends up accepting big money. He eventually pulls out of the candidacy when he realized that he had compromised his ideals, but again, Abrams points out that people have been fighting all their lives to improve the situation.

For viewers, the animated episode was a large departure from how 'Black-ish' is normally shown, and with Cherry helming the episode, there was a lot to expect. Thankfully, the election special delivered, with both parts being equally educational and entertaining, and fans were impressed. One fan tweeted, "@blackishabc Good job on the animated show #blackish," while another wrote, "This animated version of #blackish is cool. It’s also all about voting and money in politics. #Vote." A viewer tweeted, "Yooooo this episode of #blackish is AMAZING!!! Please tell me that they will do even more of this animation! Please!"

We certainly agree on the call that 'Black-ish' must bring viewers more animated episodes in the future. Some viewers felt that the episode was good enough to be recognized by awards. A fan tweeted, "This animated episode needs to be Emmy-nominated next year! #RealTalk #blackish." Another wrote, "Tonight’s 2nd episode of @blackishabc was definitely better the first. Maybe because I like cartoons. Or maybe there is some truth in the message. #vote #blackish."

'Black-ish' election special aired on ABC on Sunday, October 4. Season 7 of 'Black-ish' will premiere on ABC on Wednesday, October 21, at 9.30 pm EST.
