Disney of course has the formula for heartwarming sports-based films down pat, as we have seen with films such as 'The Game Plan', 'Ice Princess' and 'The Mighty Ducks'. Production of 'Big Shot' was initially suspended in March 2020 due to the pandemic, and shut down in November and December for other Covid-related issues. Filming later resumed in early January in Los Angeles.
The first of the ten episodes of 'Big Shot' will premiere on Disney Plus on April 16.

After getting ousted from his job in the NCAA for throwing a chair at a referee, a hothead men’s basketball coach Marvyn Korn must take a job at Westbrook School for Girls, a private all-girls high school, in an effort to redeem what’s left of his career and reputation. At first, Marvyn sees the Westbrook players as just X’s and O’s, as a mere pitstop on his road back to college ball. At the same time, the girls don’t take themselves seriously as a team and the Westbrook community as a whole is nothing but hostile toward him. The unemotional and stoic Korn soon learns that teenage girls are complicated human beings who require more than just tough love and two-a-days — they need real mentorship and genuine care. By discovering how to connect with his players and by cultivating more empathy and vulnerability, Coach Korn starts to grow into the man he’s always secretly hoped to be… and the father he never had. Meanwhile, the girls learn to take themselves more seriously, rising to Korn’s standards of excellence and finding their footing both on and off the court.
John Stamos to many will forever be known as Uncle Jesse on 'Full House'. But to his credit the actor has not let his iconic role confine him and has gone onto have a long and successful career. After 'Full House' came to an end in 1995, Stamos went onto appear in numerous television shows and movies. From 2005 to 2009, Stamos had a starring role on the NBC medical drama ER as Dr Tony Gates. He had memorable guest-starring roles on shows such as 'Friends' and 'Glee'. From September 2015 to 2016, Stamos starred as the lead character in the Fox sitcom 'Grandfathered'. Fans were delighted when Stamos reprised the role of Jesse in 'Fuller House' on which he also served as executive producer.
Jessalyn Gilsig is probably most recognisable from her role as the conniving Terri Schuester on 'Glee', a show which John Stamos also guest-starred on. She is also known for playing Lauren Davis in 'Boston Public', Gina Russo in 'Nip/Tuck' and Siggy Haraldson on the History Channel series 'Vikings'.
'Big Shot' has been developed by David E Kelley of 'Big Little Lies' fame. Also listed as creators are Dean Lorey and Brad Garrett The original idea for the series was pitched to Kelley by Brad Garrett (Single Parents, Everybody Loves Raymond) who is now on board as an executive producer.
Catch the trailer of 'Big Shot' which seems to be far more about dramatic moments, than the lighthearted comic fare we would have expected from John Stamos. You can catch 'Big Shot' on Disney Plus on April 16.
