President-elect Joe Biden slams Donald Trump for refusing to concede: 'It's an embarrassment, quite frankly'

President-elect Joe Biden made it clear to the media on Tuesday, November 10, that President Donald Trump not conceding the election to him days after the former was declared the projected winner by the networks was "an embarrassment."

While left-wing networks like CNN claims Biden has 279 votes, some of the right-leaning news outlets like Fox News have been more robust and awarded Biden 290 votes. However, even as battleground states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada are still counting votes and tallying the results, some far-right websites like RealClearPolitics listed Biden as receiving 259 electoral votes, 11 short of the threshold of 270 needed to bag the presidency. Meanwhile, Trump continues to tout theories of widespread systemic voter fraud without any concrete evidence of the same. He focused his energies on sending members of his campaign team to multiple states to file lawsuits for a recount of votes.

“It's an embarrassment, quite frankly. The only thing that... uh... how can I say this tactfully, I think it will not help the president’s legacy,” Biden told reporters on Tuesday, adding that he has held discussions with foreign leaders and they are “hopeful that the United States' democratic institutions are viewed once again as being strong and endured.”

Biden also said that he believed that the people who voted for Trump were prepared to work with him to unify the country. “The majority of the people that voted for the president — a lot voted for him, a significantly smaller number but a lot voted for him — I think they understand that we have to come together," he said, adding, "I believe we can pull the country out of this bitter politics that we’ve seen the last 5-6-7 years."

The president-elect has been a proponent of healing the nation even before one of the most contentious elections in US history began. He promised to not take a bias against the supporters of his rival political party and work for the people of the nation as a whole regardless of whether they voted for him or Trump. He reiterated the message after clinching the victory on Saturday, November 7, by winning Pennsylvania.

"America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a president for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me," Biden, set to become the 46th president of the United States, tweeted. Biden, in another statement, added: "I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. With the campaign over, it's time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It's time for America to unite. And to heal."

Biden's running mate, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, also released a statement on Twitter, saying: "This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden
or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started."
