Texan politician Beto O'Rourke raised a record-breaking $6.1 million in the first 24 hours after he announced his 2020 presidential candidacy. O'Rourke reportedly surpassed all the other Democratic contenders who have released their fundraising figures.
O'Rourke's campaign, in a statement on Monday, announced that a total of $6,136,763 in donations were made online by people, and the funding poured in from every state in the country. The donations did not include funding from nonpolitical action committees or corporations.

No further details were provided of the contributions, including the total number of donors and the average amount contributed by each person to his campaign.
O'Rourke, in the statement, also said: "In just 24 hours, Americans across this country came together to prove that it is possible to run a true grassroots campaign for president ― a campaign by all of us for all of us that answers not to the PACs, corporations, and special interests but to the people."

Reports state that the former US House representative from Texas even outpaced Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who had raised $5.9 million in the first 24 hours after announcing his candidacy for the 2020 elections last month, according to HuffPost.

Other Democratic candidates running for president, who had disclosed their fundraising figures include California Sen. Kamala Harris with $1.5 million in the first 24 hours, former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper with $1 million in the first 48 hours, and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee with $1 million in the first 72 hours.

O'Rourke, who became a political sensation despite losing a close race to unseat incumbent Sen Ted Cruz (R-Texas), announced his presidential campaign on Thursday in Iowa. Reports state that the Texan politician will continue his campaign tour this week, making stops at states like Ohio and Michigan.
