BET Awards 2020 is deemed different for various reasons. While the viewers are pretty impressed with the showrunners for grabbing their attention by putting up a rather creative show, what took many by surprise was Megan Thee Stallion's big win tonight.

The ‘Hot Girl Summer’ singer was presented with the ‘Best Female Hip Hop Artist’ Award. The other nominees in the category included Cardi B, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj and Saweetie. During her speech, Megan stated that she was honored to receive the award as she always dreamt of an audience at BET Awards before rising to fame. Soon after Megan’s win, her female counterpart Nicki Minaj started to trend on Twitter as the majority of them were rather surprised to learn that Minaj didn’t take home the title. Megan’s fans shared a legion of tweets saying the ‘Savage’ singer absolutely deserved the win and also noted that she’s surpassing Minaj, who ruled for years with her titles.

While one fan established, "Megan Thee Stallion said, 'I don’t stand outside cause I’m too outstanding'. She’s definitely surpassing Nicki Minaj!" Another fan shared, "Sometimes in life you gotta pass the torch and crown to the new queen of the rap industry sorry Cardi B and nicki Minaj #BETAwards #betawards2020 Hot Girl Meg.” One Twitter user also noted that Minaj won awards after awards only because she didn’t have a tough competition. "Does anyone remember when Nicki Minaj won best female Hip-Hop Artist for like six or seven years straight because she had like no competition?" read the tweet.

While Megan’s fans were happy about her winning the Best Female Hip Hop artist, they have called out Minaj’s fans for “dragging” Megan unnecessarily. “WOW NICKI MINAJ FANS ARE REALLY DRAGGING MEGAN & HER DECEASED MOM ALL JUST BC SHE WON A AWARD OVER NICKI? WHEW THAT FANBASE HAS ISSUES WITH EVERY FEMALE RAPPER WHO WINS SOMETHING OVER NICKI BC DRAGGING A DECEASED IS SICK AND LOW EVEN FOR YALL," read one tweet.

However, Minaj’s fans have stated that their favorite singer had “better things to do” rather than worry about the BET Awards 2020. Twitter is also flooded with comments regarding Megan’s performance for her song ‘Savage’ in ‘Mad Max Fury Road’ set up, which is being called the best on the award show. One fan wrote, “Thank you Megan for your fiery SAVAGE performance in the hood at #BETAwards2020.”
