Bernie Sanders says he will back any Democratic nominee for president just to defeat 'dangerous' Trump

The 78-year-old Vermont senator is hell-bent to see the end of Trump presidency and says he will not hesitate to support whoever wins the Democratic nomination

Bernie Sanders has resumed his presidential campaign after a brief pause due to his heart attack in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The Vermont senator was recently endorsed by a number of members of the ‘Squad’—including New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

However, 78-year-old Sanders still has the bigger picture in mind. He has revealed that even if he fails to win the Democratic primary for the 2020 elections, he will back whoever is chosen as the nominee, including his rival at this moment, Joe Biden.

The biggest aim for him is to see the end of the Donald Trump presidency as he considers the Republican the “most dangerous president” the US has ever seen.

Speaking to CBS News’ Nikole Killion on Saturday, October 19, during his first rally in Queens, New York after the illness, the Vermont senator said: “If it’s not me, we’re going to rally around whoever it may be because we understand that Donald Trump is the most dangerous president, perhaps in the history of this country—and he must be defeated.”

When Killion tested Sanders further on the topic asking whether he would also support former vice-president Biden if he wins the primary, Sanders said: “Every candidate. We’re going to rally around whoever that candidate is.”

Sanders though said it was obvious for him to expect that he wins the primary. Sanders was in the run for Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 as well but lost it eventually to former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

Sanders, along with Biden and Elizabeth Warren, is among the frontrunners for the Democratic nomination on a crowded platform occupied by some promising candidates. Each of the three has 20 percent support in the polls while the rest lag far behind. They are also known to have the organizational and monetary strength to push their respective campaigns strongly.

When pitted against Trump, who they have to beat to win the next presidency, a recent survey by Emerson Polling showed that it is Sanders who managed to have a lead over the president, among all the Democratic candidates, even if a narrow one. While Trump has a two-percent lead over both Warren and Biden, Sanders leads him by the same margin, the survey added.
