'Below Deck' Finale: What happened to Sandy? Fans puzzled after she calls Tom 'a gift' despite his rude behavior

Fans are confused about why would Sandy praise Tom for being so miserable and abusive to the crew all the time

Chef Tom Checketts and Captain Sandy Yawn were at loggerheads briefly. There was nothing personal between the two but the issue blew out of proportion and slowly started to get tense. Even though Sandy wanted to extend her help, Tom was too worked up about the subpar groceries that were accepted on board by the crew. The fish was brought in at room temperature, which meant he wouldn't be able to create perfect meals out of what was made available to him.

In the previous few weeks of 'Below Deck Mediterranean,' Tom had been upset about how his reputation as a chef would be on the line if he sent out average food for the charter guests. However, when it got too much, Sandy called Tom out during a tip meeting, pointing out that everyone has bad days but that shouldn't affect the quality of work. She even added that he must come to her and not drag girlfriend Malia White into the equation if there are any further problems with the produce. 

However, in the finale episode, we see Sandy calling Tom a "gift" and appreciating him for never forgetting to feed the guests. Meanwhile, fans are a little surprised as to why she would praise someone this heavily given how disrespectful he has been toward her during the last charter.

I am so happy this season is ending #BelowDeckMed," a user shared, while another pointed out: "Tom has been a miserable abusive d**k to his coworkers his whole time on the boat but here’s Capt Sandy telling him it’s fine. She actually told him he was a gift #belowdeckmed."

"Imagine Captain Sandy having the same amount of understanding for Hannah as she is showing Tom, who was OUTRIGHT OPENLY rude to her. #BelowDeckMed #BelowDeck," a user expressed. "The way Captain Sandy plays favorites is wild. Will not criticize Tom for losing his mind over subpar groceries but Kiko got fired after one bad dinner #BelowDeckMed," another wrote.
