CANCUN, MEXICO: The son of former NFL linebacker Barry Bennett, who was accused of killing Barry and his wife Carol, has been nabbed by authorities in Mexico.

Police officials had charged 22-year-old Dylan Josh Bennett with two counts of second-degree murder after the two were found shot dead in their rural home in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Authorities tracked him down to a hotel on Saturday, August 24, in Cancun, Mexico.

Investigators reportedly tracked him down using his cell phone, credit card, and ATM activities after they were hot on his trail since Friday. "Using intelligence developed by the Todd County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension [BCA] and the FBI, Mexican law enforcement located Dylan Bennett shortly before noon today at a hotel in Cancun, Mexico, and took him into custody," the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Carol, his dead mother's credit and debit card transactions had been tracked to Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ohio on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The car that had gone missing from their home, which belonged to Carol, was found in Columbus, Ohio. Authorities believe that he had taken a flight from Columbus to Cancun in Mexico.

Before the arrest, Dylan had contacted Todd County Sheriff Steve Och saying that he wanted to turn himself in. Before the information reached Mexican authorities, he had already been arrested. "The FBI is taking him into custody now and will transport him to Minnesota in the coming days," the statement reportedly said.

As we had previously reported, the police believe that he shot his parents and then fled the country after the dead bodies of 63-year-old Bennett and his wife Carol, also 63, were found on Wednesday, August 21, afternoon.

The two are believed to have been killed on Monday, August 19. Benett had multiple gunshot wounds in the torso and head while Carol had been shot in the back and the torso, more than once.

There had been erratic and suspicious ATM activity on the day of the murder where Dylan is believed to have withdrawn a large sum of money from the Bennetts' account.

Furthermore, it was also reported that Dylan had been to a mental health facility where he had expressed that he wanted to murder his parents. Bennett was a defensive lineman and played 11 seasons with New Orleans Saints, the New York Jets, and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL, before retiring in 1988.
