Spoilers for 'Barkskins' Season 1 Episode 2 'The Turtle King'

There was a lot that took place in the second episode of 'Barkskins'. The key event being the kidnapping of the mysterious young girl who was rescued by Hamish Goames (Aneurin Barnard) in the previous episode. Gus Lafarge (Matthew Lillard) desperately attempts to retrieve the girl from Goames and Yvon (Zahn McClarnon) only to end in his own (almost) fatal stabbing. But when the two return to look at his body, it is missing. How could he have fled the scene after such a deadly stabbing?

Either way, now, the young girl is missing after she fled Thom Lafarge's (Kyle Breitkopf) clutches. Thom, according to his father's instructions, had managed to get her away in the woods. But when Monsieur Claude Trepagny (David Thewlis), who is on his way, arrives by the same path on the woods, he helps her out.

The more pressing question is if she is going to manage to remain safe. With Lafarge now possibly dead, Elisha Cooke (Thomas M. Wright) might be keen on employing the best of expertise in order to get rid of the witness of the massacre. Consequently, Goames and Yvon will be continuing their investigation into the disappearance of the missing Hudson's Bay Company's agent. Speaking of Monsieur Trepagny, the upcoming episode might get him his French bride. In the previous episode, Trepagny was in high spirits when he received the news that he is eligible to marry a Filles Du Roi bride. He has got Mari (Kaniehtiio Horn) back home concerned about this very thing, but Trepagny is beyond a worry.

Elsewhere, Melissande (Tallulah Haddon) and Delphine (Lily Sullivan) both must prepare to find themselves the best match from everything that New France has to offer (although it might not be much because most men here are old). Melissande's only criterion is that the man be rich, wealthy, above the worries of money and have land in abundance. Delphine, on the other hand, hasn't expressed much about her requirements. We don't want to just assume what happens next, but who among Melissande and Delphine might choose Trepagny?

'Barkskins' airs on National Geographic on Mondays 9/ 8c.
