British musician Sonna Rele, who hit the limelight with the end-credit original theme song ‘Strong’ in Disney’s motion picture ‘Cinderella’, recently dropped her latest single ‘Bad Bitch’, which is being hailed as a ‘Feminist anthem’.

MEA WorldWide caught up with the talented multi-intrumentalist at the 2019 AMA red carpet, where she talked in detail about ‘Bad Bitch’, which throws light on the younger generation’s obsession with social media and its dire consequences.

While the song mainly focuses on the impact of social media on the younger generation, Rele told us that a conversation with a 12-year-old inspired her to make the song.

When she asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up, she responded, “Oh, I want to be an Instagram model and be Instagram famous."

Expressing her opinion on the girl’s reaction, Rele told MEAWW, “And I was like, there's so many things. You can be like let's just throw any shit on Instagram. But you know, she said, even if it meant going under the knife, and that to me was -  okay, I think I want to start talking about this.”

Rele wants ‘Bad Bitch’ to inspire and help young women who feel the constant need to change themselves to keep up with the unrealistic standards set by the beauty industry. All she wants is for them to embrace the confidence within themselves.

When asked who among the female artists have inspired her as a feminist, through their work, Rele named Beyonce. “I think she exemplifies the whole female empowerment thing. Embracing yourself,” she said.

Elaborating more on the harm social media has caused than good, she further explained, “There's stuff that goes viral, like going topless or the click bait stuff. I think, avoiding that kind of more focusing on what you can bring to inspire the masses, live there.”
