'Backstreet Rookie' Episode 6 sees Saet-byul (Kim Yoo-jung) decide to quit working for Dae-hyun (Ji Chang-wook) at the convenience store after Yeon-joo blames her for all the problems that she is facing in her relationship with Dae-hyun. She doesn't accept the fact that her mother had managed to insult Dae-hyun and his work, and is unable to accept the fact that she did not have the guts to stand up to her mother. So, she finds a way out of feeling guilty by approaching Saet-byul and telling her that all the problems in her relationship began with Saet-byul.

The episode began with Saet-byul getting hit by the group of bullies who had previously attacked Yeon-joo at the restaurant. Right after, she also suffers from acute appendicitis and gets admitted in the hospital. As Saet-byul gets better at the hospital, Dae-hyun tries his best to apologize to Yeon-joo for the article that was uploaded with a picture of himself and Saet-byul -- piggyback riding pose at that. However, she doesn't give him a chance. Instead, she even leaves with her childhood friend and the boss at her current workplace, Seung-joon. This puts Dae-hyun in a tough spot because he has heard all the employees of their company gossip about how Yeon-joo deserves not Dae-hyun but her boss.

The reason being, both of them are of similar social standing in life. She wouldn't be embarrassed if she were to go out with him to a fine dining restaurant or introduce him as her boyfriend to her parents. All of this is something that Yeon-joo feels in her relationship with Dae-hyun and Seug-joon has also noticed her hesitation. So he also finds this an opportunity to tell her that he had always liked her and would be more than just friends with her.

All of this becomes a nightmare for Dae-hyun to deal with and he even tries to tell Saet-byul that he would like her to stop working at the store. He believes that if he were to clarify his relationship with Saet-byul, things with Yeon-joo would return to normal. However, after seeing how genuine Saet-byul was when it came to working at the store, Dae-hyun doesn't have the heart to tell her anything. Instead, he gets his mother to take care of Saet-byul. For Saet-byul, who lost her mother when she was too young to remember and father in an accident, she has always taken care of herself. To have someone to care for her, touches her deeply and this gratitude is probably what leads to her decision.

In the meantime, Yeon-joo's mother tracks down who Dae-hyun is after her daughter came home drunk and blurted out about Dae-hyun being a mean person. Yeon-joo's mother finds out that Dae-hyun is a convenience store owner and is unhappy from the get-go. She wants Dae-hyun to understand his place and so she orders products of high value from his store and has it delivered. In front of Yeon-joo, she treats Dae-hyun like a deliveryman and Yeon-joo doesn't even take a stand. After Dae-hyun leaves, she tries to call him and instead of apologizing, she tells him to not take her mother seriously.

When Dae-hyun refuses to let her talk any further and hangs up, Yeon-joo for the first time realizes that Dae-hyun might not wait around for her any longer. Especially after how he was treated by her mother and her in the past. So to ensure that he has no one else to lean on, or waver, she ends up confronting Saet-byul and tells her that it was she who caused all the conflicts in their otherwise happy relationship. Saet-byul is hurt, but she decides to snap out of it with her friend Ji-wook's help. When she returns and sees Dae-hyun waiting for her in the hospital room, she tells him that she would now want to quit working for him.

'Backstreet Rookie' originally airs on SBS on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 pm KST.
