'Backstreet Rookie' aka 'Convenience Store Saet Byul' is an upcoming K-Drama based on the webcomic 'Pyeonuijeom Saetbyeoli' written by Hwalhwasan and illustrated by Geumsagong. The webcomic was published between August 11, 2016, to December 8, 2017.

Release date: 

'Backstreet Rookie' will air on SBS on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 pm, taking over from Lee Min-ho's drama 'The King: Eternal Monarch'. 

Plot:

The show is about Choi Dae-Hyun (Ji Chang-wook) who first runs into a group of high school girls who ask him to buy them a pack of cigarettes since it is illegal for tobacco to be sold to minors. That is how he meets Jung Saet-Byeol (Kim Yoo-jung). She gets the cigarette pack from him and also gets his phone number, but she never calls him. The two meet four years later and how their personalities change and what brings them together forms the rest of the story.

Ji Chang-wook is popular for his works 'Healer', 'Suspicious Partner' an most recently, the actor was seen in 'Melting Me Softly' which he starred in after returning from his two-year army enlistment. He plays the role of Choi Dae-hyun in the drama. He is a 33-year-old man who runs a convenience store after quitting work at a big corporation. 

Kim Yoo-jung as Jung Saet-byeol

Actor Kim Yoo-jung began her career as a child actor. She is well-known for her role in shows 'The Moon Embracing The Sun' and 'Angry Mom' among others. She transitioned to playing adult roles with 'Love in the Moonlight' opposite Park Bo-gum. She even won the Baeksang Award for this show. She was most recently seen in the show 'Clean with Passion'. In 'Backstreet Rookie' she plays the titular role of Saet-Byeol. 

Other cast members include Han Sun-hwa as Yoo Yeon-joo, Do Sang-woo as Jo Seung-joon, Ahn Sol-bin as Jung Eun-byeol and Kim Min-kyu as Kang Ji-wook.

Director:

The 16 episode series is directed by Lee Myung-woo who also directed SBS shows 'The Fiery Priest' and 'Whisper' in the past. 

Trailer:

A few teasers of the show have been released so far. The first one introduces Saet Byeol as a student who loves swearing, bullying and fighting with other kids and even adults. 

The second teaser shows Saet-byeol begins working at Dae-hyun's convenience store where she manages to get into trouble repeatedly. For instance, this teaser shows how she sold a pack of cigarettes to a minor whose family member ends up at the store to complain to Dae-hyun who owns the convenience store. This teaser also hints at racy chemistry between Yoo-jun and Chang-wook in the show.
