Babymetal announce world tour, their first outing since death of guitarist Ko-Gami
As fans await Babymetal’s third studio album, the band will kick off their world tour on May 8.
Japanese heavy metal stars Babymetal have just announced a 2018 world tour. They will bring their live spectacle to the US in May before heading across the pond for the summer festival circuit for the European leg of the tour reports NME.
The run will be the first since their guitarist Mikio Fujioka passed away after a freak accident last month. According to Fujioka’s wife, the musician fell from an observation deck while star gazing on December 30 and later succumbed to injuries on January 5. Fujioka was known to fans by his nicknames 'Ko-Gami’ or ‘The Little God’.
The “Little” Guitar Kami of #BABYMETAL ‘s #Kamiband has passed away in the METAL GALAXIES. We hope that he is now with his GUITAR MASTER A.Holdsworth and enjoying an epic guitar session with him.— BABYMETAL (@BABYMETAL_JAPAN) January 9, 2018

Babymetal’s rise to heavy metal fame was completely unprecedented, starting off as YouTube sensations before making their debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert which introduced them to the North American mainstream metal audience. Check out the band's debut on the Colbert Show below:
One of the few new bands able to play arenas around the world, the rise of the Japanese girl-trio has been as sensational as it was unlikely. Putting together a truly bizarre combination of J-pop and overbearing heavy metal riffs with their hyper-technical style and unmatched stage presence, Babymetal gathered a fan following of millions, while practically inventing the genre 'Kawaii metal' ('kawaii' being the term for the Japanese sub-culture which upholds all things cute!) all while still being teenagers!
As fans await Babymetal’s third studio album, the band will kick off the American leg of the tour on May 8 in Kansas City and wrap up on May 20 at Rock on the Range in Ohio. Babymetal will then take their unique performance to Europe, beginning June 1 at Germany’s Rock am Ring and rolling on until Download UK on June 9.
