A Queensland MP and known monarchist is facing a huge backlash after he accused Meghan Markle of taking down the monarchy because she “married the wrong Prince”. Jarrod Bleijie’s comment came hours after Meghan and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey went on air, causing a lot of controversies. In the two-hour special, the Sussexes made several shocking claims, from racism and mental health to even Meghan having suicidal thoughts.

The tell-all also forced the Palace to release a statement, which read, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members. ENDS.”

But Bleijie believes the former actress’ “agenda” behind the allegations is something else. Liberal National Party MP took to Twitter on Tuesday, March 9, to clear his point as he wrote, “The problem started when American actress Meghan Markle was told William would be King not Harry. It was at this time that she realised that she married the wrong Prince. So if she can't be the future Queen, she'll attempt to take down the institution. The Crown will prevail!”

His tweet received a lot of criticisms, including from education minister Grace Grace, who called Bleijie’s comments “disturbing’. She said, “I just found it absolutely disturbing and unbelievable. It's nothing to do with whether I’m a Meghan fan or not, I’m a fan of women having their proper position in society, and to suggest that she is who she married is absolutely unbelievable.”

Grace also mentioned: “It is disappointing that during a week where we are celebrating the success of women around the world, that we have a member in this House who is essentially saying that Meghan Markle is a gold digger. Meghan Markle is not who she married. She is a strong, successful woman in her own right. The young people of today deserve better." She added, “Politicians have to think twice about what they are tweeting and how we act in parliament, particularly in Canberra, and every member in the house should be ashamed of what was on that tweet.”

People on Twitter too rebuked Bleijie for his derogatory comments as one user said, “Oooooh...now, this is really embarrassing for you! Did it sound smart in your own head?” Another one commented, “Maybe in your world people only marry for power, wealth and prestige.  In the real world people marry because they love the other person and want to spend the rest of their lives with them.  Perhaps Meghan belongs in the real world, not yours.” “What an appalling statement to make. She fell in love with a man, who clearly shows the same affection. They made a choice to get married and have a family. He then made a choice to remove them from an untenable situation and they are happier for it. FYI They love the Queen,” the third user added.
