A young care worker has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing children and disabled adults. Daniel Sasulu Nuumaalii had filmed his alleged crimes on his mobile phone. Nuumaalii was arrested on Friday, May 1, by New South Wales (NSW) Police, Australia. The 20-year-old has been charged with 16 offenses in connection to alleged attacks on vulnerable adults and children at a Sydney care home.

The alleged attacks on the vulnerable people by Nuumaalii were uncovered while the police were investigating into his drug offenses. He will be sentenced in the NSW Local Court later in May for that. According to reports, NSW police attended a business in Parramatta on Friday afternoon and arrested Nuumaalii before taking him in for interrogation. During the process, his mobile was seized and when police checked it, they allegedly found 11 videos including 'intimate' clips of five adults he was supposed to be caring for; videos of him abusing two children, one aged just four, were also uncovered.

The alleged attacks happened between June 2019 and April this year, according to The Daily Mail. Following the arrest, Nuumaalii has been charged with 11 counts of intentionally recording intimate images without consent, producing child abuse material, possessing child abuse material, intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years, and two counts of common assault.

He was also fired from his job as a disability attendant instantly and was produced before Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, May 2, where he was placed in custody until his next court appearance on May 14. Besides, Nuumaalii is also scheduled to be sentenced in connection to several other offenses, which include possessing a weapon, drug supply, and dealing with proceeds of crime on May 21.

NSW Police detective chief inspector Adam Johnson deemed the alleged sexual attacks by Nuumaalii “disgusting”.

“This is a significant breach of trust. Very vulnerable members of the community who really rely on people who are put in a position to care for them. It is disgusting behavior... (but) it is good police work in a really bad situation,” Johnson told Nine News.

He also praised detectives for unearthing the videos, including the alleged child abuse material during their separate investigation.

Meanwhile, a background check on Nuumaalii found out that he was a high school dropout. His alleged crimes have left his former friends “shocked”, as one of his unnamed friends told Daily Mail Australia “he could not believe it” when he was told about the charges against him. The friend also claimed that Nuumaalii came from a “beautiful” family.

The man also shared that he and his classmates at Patrician Brothers' College in Blacktown were not in contact with Nuumaalii for years after he dropped out of the class prematurely in 2017.

“Being shocked by the news is truly an understatement. We went through high school together and then he dropped out at the start of Year 12 in 2017, which came as quite a shock, to be honest,” he said.

“After that, he just went to M.I.A (missing in action) and haven't really heard from him. I can solemnly say that his family is all just beautiful and lovely people,” the friend of Nuumaalii added.
