'Arthdal Chronicles' season 2: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Song Joong-ki's Netflix starrer
'Arthdal Chronicles' is a period drama set in the fictitious world of Arthdal where people are still governed by tribes and tribe leaders. The show portrays how this world's first true king and queen are born.

The third part, also the second season of the show will begin airing on September 6 on tvN and can be streamed on Netflix.
Plot:
'Arthdal Chronicles' follows the journey of Ta-gon, the son of a Saram (human) and a Neanthal whose hunger for power will lead him to become the first true king of Arthdal. However, before he achieves his aim, he has to fight his father San-ung who cannot see the growth of an Igutu outdo his, the Chief of other tribes especially that of Asa Ron of White Mountain Tribe and Mi-hol of Hae Tribe. Amid all of this, Ta-gon's forces capture Wahan Tribe members which brings Tan-ya and Eun-seom to Arthdal.
The show is split into three parts. The first one titled 'The Children of Prophecy' followed the journey of Ta-gon, Tae Al-ha, Eun-seom and Tan-ya as they grew up to become adults who made their life choices to follow different paths in the world that they lived in. In part two titled 'The Sky Turning Inside Out, Rising Land', features the five main characters including Saya cross paths in Arthdal as each of them is set on a path to either seek revenge or attain power. The third and upcoming part titled 'The Prelude To All Legends' will conclude the series by portraying how Tan-ya and Eun-seom's life comes full circle and whether Ta-gon and Tae Al-ha will succeed in their plans.
Cast:
Jang Dong-gun as Ta-gon
Actor Jang Dong-gun who plays the role of Ta-gon, who is an Igutu - a son born to a human and Neanthal - in the series. He is the son of San-ung, who heads the council of all tribes and is the chief commander of Arthdal and becomes the head of Daekan troops after winning a war against Neanthals. After his rising popularity, his father tries to get Ta-gon to stay in line, however, Tagon decides to kill his own father and takes over the crown with the help of his long-time lover, Tae Al-ha. The fact that he is Igutu is a strictly guarded secret that only a handful of people know.
Song Joong-ki as Eun-seom and Saya
Actor Song Joong-ki who was recently in news for his divorce from wife Song Hye-kyo plays the other lead roles in the series of Eun-seom and his twin brother Saya. The two are also Igutu, born to Asa Hon and Neanthal, Ragaz. Asa Hon is a member of the White Mountain Tribe, the only tribe in Arthdal allowed to dream and interpret the blessings of God through a fascinating ritual very similar to a modern-day seance. Eun-seom was safeguarded by his mother who died during their journey to Iark, a faraway place where she and her son could be safe. Saya was taken by his father who fell prey to Ta-gon and his soldiers' arrows.
Kim Ji-won as Tan-ya
Actor Kim Ji-won who made a name for herself with her roles in shows such as 'Descendants of the Sun', 'Fight My Way', and 'The Heirs' plays the role of Tan-ya in the show. She is the descendant of the Great Spiritual Mother of the Wahan and one of the three children who are a part of the 'Blue Comet Prophecy'. The other two being Saya and Eun-seom. The prophecy about Tan-ya states, "The one who will break the shell will arrive on the day of the blue comet, accompanied by death. Wahan will cease to be Wahan." As the descendant of the Great Spiritual Mother, Tan-ya is also the only true direct descendant of the White Mountain Tribe's Asa Shin (the actual name of Great Spiritual Mother).
Kim Ok-vin as Tae Al-ha
Actor Kim Ok-vin, well-known for her work in 'The Blade and Petal' is seen playing the role of Tae Al-ha who is Ta-gon's lover in the show. Her father Mi-hol, the Hae Tribe Chief uses her as a spy by appointing her as San-ung's concubine in the show. She uses all the information at hand to help Ta-gon succeed his father and supports him in his path towards becoming the first true king of Arthdal. However, at the end of season 1, her relationship with Ta-gon is tested and we will have to see how things work out for her in season 2.

'Arthdal Chronicles' was written by Kim Young-hyun who is well-known for writing ' Dae Jang Geum' and 'Queen Seondeok' along with Park Sang-yeon. The show is directed by Kim Won-seok who has previously worked on popular K-Dramas including 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal' and 'Signal'.
