Andrew Yang has changed his voter registration from 'Democrat' to 'Independent'. The former NYC mayor hopeful and presidential candidate made the decision to switch after 26 long years because he feels "like I can be even more honest about both the system and the people in it." In his lengthy blog post which was released on October 4, Yang continued, "I believe I can reach people who are outside the system more effectively. I feel more . . . independent."

Earlier last month, the Internet was buzzing with news about Yang starting a third political party in October as it was reported he "no longer identifies as a Democrat." There were a number of conspiracy theories floating around which dismissed the idea of a third party, branding it as nothing but a "marketing tactic" to create a buzz around the launch of Yang's book titled 'Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy.'In June, he was on the receiving end of a lot of online trolling after he spoke about his plans to deal with people with psychological conditions. While he had a lot of people praise him for his plans to rebuild NYC after Covid-19, a huge section of people found it highly questionable when he referred to people with mental health disorders as the "mentally ill." In March, he was dubbed as "model whitewashed Asian" over his silence on Atlanta spa shooting where Robert Aaron Long killed eight people of Asian descent.

Andrew Yang breaks up with the Democratic Party

In his blog post, Yang also revealed he is building his own team and that he has the validation of many including a senior Democrat. "One very senior Democrat member of Congress texted me to say, “I’m sorry to see you go. But I know you’ll do as much good as you can from the outside. And eventually, remember the outsiders become the insiders," Yang wrote. "I’ve got to say it feels really good to be building my own team. This is where I’m most at home," he continued.

Yang concluded his blog with, "Breaking up with the Democratic Party feels like the right thing to do because I believe I can have a greater impact this way." To read the full text, click here. Yang may have changed his political direction but some things appear to remain the same for him, one of them being the trolling bit. His latest announcement has earned him a lot of that, continue reading below to know what the Internet thinks about his decision.

'You are doing this to sell books'

"Andrew, bubie, you don't need to tell everyone. Because no one actually cares. Just do it. And good luck," a user tweeted, tongue-in-cheek. "You were a democrat? I thought you were just another corporate anti-bernie puppet," quipped another. "Even if your intent is good, it appears you're doing this to sell books," another user opined. "Fine, just don't run again. You used the Democratic party to elevate your profile, and in the process showed the country you aren't a serious leader. Don't further exacerbate things by getting votes split," read another explosive tweet.
