Hours after President Donald Trump called himself the "chosen one" and the "king of Israel," a hashtag about the Constitution's 25th Amendment began trending on Twitter on Wednesday.
Multiple influential figures including celebrity Nancy Sinatra and lawyer George Conway tweeted the hashtag when the president promoted a glowing accolade from a conspiracy theorist, Wayne Allen Root, who said that Israeli Jews consider Trump the "second coming of God."
The Republican also drew flak over reports that he lashed out at the Norway Prime Minister after he was told he could not buy Greenland.
The president, while talking to the reporters, later in the day had also referred to himself as "the chosen one" while he was defending his role confronting China, the Daily Mail reported.
Conway, the husband of Trump's counselor Kellyanne Conway, tagged a tweet, writing: "So, Mr. Vice President, members of the Cabinet, members of Congress, what’s it going to take for you all to acknowledge what you and we all know: that the President of the United States is mentally unstable and unfit to serve?"
He also tweeted a psychological "word of the day" — "decompensation," defined as "a breakdown in an individual's defense mechanisms" leading to loss of cognitive functions.
Reports state that by 6 pm on Wednesday, #25thAmendmentnow had 110,000 tweets, while "Chosen One" had 144,000 and "King of Israel" had 162,000.
Twitter user Ryan Knight while using the hashtag wrote: "When the president of the United States starts declaring that he is: 'The King of Israel, 'The Chosen One,' 'The Second coming of God,' it means he is out of his goddamn mind & it’s time for the #25thAmendmentNow."
The 25th Amendment accords a special role to the vice president, under which the VP and the cabinet can write to Congress saying that the president is unable to discharge his office. A two-third vote in each chamber would be required to remove a sitting president.
Amid the trending hashtag, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley sent out an odd tweet about VP Mike Pence on Wednesday: "Enough of the false rumors. Vice President Pence has been a dear friend of mine for years. He has been a loyal and trustworthy VP to the President. He has my complete support."
While another Twitter user, James Michael Sama, wrote: "If you were having a conversation with someone and they randomly looked to the sky mid-sentence and said "I am the chosen one" you'd probably pull up Web MD on your phone immediately. But, when it's the current president, it's just another day in Washington. #25thAmendmentNow".
