Golden Retriever saves owner's life after leading ambulance down narrow alleys to where he collapsed

A Golden Retriever in north China is being commended as a hero after it managed to successfully lead an ambulance to its unconscious owner. The dog's owner had collapsed in a small alleyway in Yuncheng in the Shanxi province of the country on January 16. Local residents who found the man immediately alerted emergency services who were rushing to the scene when they came across the helpful pet.

Dashcam footage from the ambulance shows the extremely loyal dog waiting for for the vehicle in the middle of the small street before it turns around and runs away. This forced the rescuers to follow it.

Jiang Xu, one of the rescuers, told the Chinese video news site Pear that the dog kept looking back at the vehicle as it ran to see if the rescuers were following. Xu said: "After making sure we were following it, the dog then picked up speed and started running."

The Retriever was finally able to lead the rescuers to a crowd that had formed around the unconscious owner right outside his home. The owner was reportedly collecting bottles at a neighbor's home when he suddenly collapsed to the ground in the alleyway.

Xu also said that the man had collapsed from drinking too much and that he was treated at a nearby hospital. The man's son is currently taking care of him.

Many users on the internet were moved by the dog's loyalty after the news went viral on social media. One comment from Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, said: "How did the dog recognize an ambulance? That's just amazing!" Another user wrote: "Such a smart and loyal guardian angel!" 

In a similar incident in the country, a loyal Retriever in the Heilongjiang province of north China refused to leave the side of its unconscious owner after she passed out on the street. This forced the paramedics to make an exception and allow the dog to be in the ambulance with her.
