Yeah Yeah Yeahs tease a possible comeback album with a cover of Big Star’s 'Thirteen'

The band has been teasing a comeback album record since last year and this could be another teaser of good things to come.

The slow and steady return of Yeah Yeah Yeahs picked up a little steam On Wednesay with their first newly recorded material in nearly five years.

Gearing up for their string of festival appearances this summer and co-headlining appearances alongside LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs stopped by the Spotify studios to record their installment of Spotify Singles, which has seen a growing assortment of artists record live renditions of one original track, as well as one cover.

For their appearance, Yeah Yeah Yeahs performed a rendition of their breakout single 'Maps' from their 2003 debut Fever To Tell.

As for the cover, the New York-based art-punk outfit chose Big Star’s classic 'Thirteen' and delivered a rendition that has been described as “melancholic perfection” by one critic. Check out both the tracks below.

Last year, Yeah Yeah Yeahs reissued Fever to Tell as a box set featuring unheard demos, B-sides, rarities, and a 2003-era documentary, and it looks like that was just a taste of a possible comeback album.

This year, they will headline New York’s Governor’s Ball Music Festival and perform with LCD Soundsystem in LA, which is all very good news for punk fans who are waiting for a hit of nostalgia.

On Tuesday, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist Nick Zinner appeared on a new track by Boots called 'Delete Delete,' alongside an unconventional smorgasbord of collaborators that included Run The Jewels and actress Cristin Milioti, which made for a seemingly strange arrangement of performers but managed to deliver a pretty decent track.
