Willie Nelson announces new LP 'Last Man Standing', shares title track

This spring, Willie Nelson will celebrate his 85th birthday. That doesn’t seem to be slowing the country legend down as he’s all set to celebrate with the release of a new album Last Man Standing. As Rolling Stone points out, releasing an album to celebrate his birthday is turning out to be a regular act for Nelson.

Last Man Standing continues that much explored recent theme of mortality by the outlaw country star, with the spritely title track's cheeky opening line, "I don't want to be the last man standing. Oh wait a minute, maybe I do." Nelson finds himself contemplating the friends he's lost and wondering who's next, with the sepia-splashed video for the titular track Last Man Standing, which features Nelson in the studio with his fellow bandmates.

Over the past year, many fans have been concerned with Nelson’s health after he canceled numerous concerts while promoting his 2017 album God’s Problem Child, but as is evident in the first line of the title track, Nelson seems to joke with the idea of his mortality, keeping things bright and light-hearted in true Willie Nelson style. He's scheduled to return to the stage next month, including a headlining set at the 2018 Luck Reunion, held at his ranch outside Austin, Texas, during South By Southwest.
