Imagine Dragons drop new single 'Next to Me', announce extended summer tour

'Next To Me' is the band's first love song and has been dubbed as "something everybody can relate to" by frontman Dan Reynolds.

Imagine Dragons fans, rejoice! The alt-rockers released their new single, titled 'Next To Me' on Wednesday (February 21). Singer Dan Reynolds croons about love and loyalty on the new single while the sound teases a fair mix of the "experimental and accessible" as Ryan Reed of Rolling Stone points out.

As is evident from the lyrics, the single is the band’s first ever love song. "Something 'bout the way that you walk into my living room/Casually and confident, looking at the mess I am," he sings. "But still you, still you want me." The chorus is ideal for an arena chant and the ambitious effort is sure to be a regular in upcoming shows.

Earlier this month, in an interview with Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio, Dan Reynolds, lead singer of the band, admitted that it was an unexpected theme change, saying: "Yeah I don't typically write love songs. I started writing when I was about 13 years old and it was a source of an escape from school from depression from feeling lost and it was never a romance. So for me, this is some of the first times that I've really explored diving into my mind and musicality and sonicality of romance.”

The latest single is the first piece of music from the band since the release of 2017’s ‘Evolve', which debuted at the No.1 spot of Billboard's Top Rock Albums as well as Alternative Albums charts.

There’s more good news. The Nevada based alt-rock band also extended the promotional tour behind ‘Evolve', with a new run of North American dates. Produced by Live Nation, the tour will feature 14-year-old singer/songwriter Grace VanderWaal for all performances. The tour kicks off on June 5th in Hartford, Connecticut and concludes August 10th in Tampa, Florida.

Fans can register now for free access to the Ticketmaster Verified Fan presale, which allows registered users to purchase tickets before the general public starting Tuesday, February 27. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Saturday, March 3 at 10 am local time at LiveNation.com.

Also, this summer, HBO Documentary Films will release the documentary Believer, which follows Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds as he takes on a new mission to explore how the Mormon church treats its LGBTQ members.
