Musicians who made it big, thanks to YouTube

Here are some of your favorite artists that made it big thanks to YouTube.

I've said this time and time again, there's nothing like the power of the internet. Some of our favorite artists had their big breaks thanks to YouTube. Here are a couple of artists that got their big break on YouTube.

1. Justin Bieber

The Canadian singer was one of the most well-known YouTube discoveries. Scooter Braun happened upon Bieber's cover of Ne-Yo's 'So Sick' at a local singing competition. You can't blame Scooter for getting hooked. Bieber showed off his chops in the video and thus, a star was born.

When 'Crank That' hit the airwaves, there was nothing you could do to stop people from dancing. The song went wild on YouTube as well as MySpace in late 2009, and it soon earned Soulja Boy a cool seven million.

3. Charlie Puth

Charlie was discovered by Ellen DeGeneres when she clicked on his cover of Adel's 'Someone Like You'. The budding musician is the product of Berklee College of Music, carving him a path in a successful music career.

4. Pentatonix

The acapella group shot to fame with their covers of famous songs that were arranged to vocal perfection. Pentatonix currently has two Grammys for their amazing talent and have not failed to disappoint.

5. Ed Sheeran

Our man Ed was not just a YouTube star, he was also a busker on the streets of London. The redhead singer and songwriter started his career covering songs in his backyard and his bedroom.

6. Shawn Mendes

At one point in his career, Shawn Mendes was just taking part in cover contests. Now, he's won the hearts of fans all over the world. Originally, the singer had his break on Vine, where he managed to rake in nearly 10,000 likes in just one day.

7. Carly Rae Jepsen

This sweetheart first managed to win Bieber's heart. Her song 'Call Me Maybe' gained massive notoriety after Justin Beiber and Selena Gomes posted a video of themselves lip-syncing to the song.

8. 5 Seconds of Summer

The Aussie boy band has also come a long way fro just doing covers. 5 Seconds of Summer is currently hinting at a new studio album that may make its appearance this year.
